The biography writing style of this book is honestly the only way I can imagine the story being told. It's so unique and it really lends itself well to telling several different stories at once, but it feels natural and authentic. The characters are really well written and their growth is compelling. My favorite character was Simone. She is such a good friend to Daisy and she's a sweetheart. The twists in this book were great! I really enjoyed the ending. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book! (There are quite a few content warnings, though. I'd recommend reading over them, if you're sensitive, before picking up this book.)

SPOILERS!!!
Some of my favorite parts of this book:
-The scenes of Karen and Graham starting their relationship were so cute! Ahhh!
-The part where the fan at the bar distracts Billy from finishing his drink by asking about his kids made me cry! Not just tear up--tears streaming down my face. It is so compassionate to notice something happening to a stranger that is outwardly subtle. To really notice and care about another person that you don't know really touches me. It feels good to think that this world is full of beautiful kind people who will notice when someone needs help.
-THE TWIST!!!! OMG I would've never guessed who the interviewer is!! WOW!
-In the back of the book the author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, says that she wanted to focus on writing about what she's interesting in which is women and women of color.
"A big part of this book is the idea that there are a lot of ways for a woman to be in a man’s world. ...These are not women that are fighting with each other. These are women who are very different from one another but are supporting each other in the right to be whoever it is they want to be."
I really saw that in this book. It shines through clearly in every interaction that the characters have with each other and others. I really enjoyed it and I love to see women supporting women.

Original review, 2020: 4.5/5 β˜† character driven, no strong character development, complicated adoration with the characters, not diverse, yes flaws are a main focus!

Second review, 2022: 4.75/5 β˜† character driven, stronger character development, still have a complicated adoration/love for these characters but are much more likable and relatable, not diverse, and yes the flaws are a main focus. I even noticed more flaws this time around πŸ˜… this book has held true since the first time I read it. I loved it then and love it even more now! Definitely still one of my favorite books. I found so much that I related to now and from my past (like I did first time around but more so). Definitely a reflective and emotional story. This is one of those books where I don't care for the loveable nature of characters and character development bc these characters are just so raw and fleshed out. Do wish that they were my diverse though. But, I'm dying to reread it and watch the TV adaptation on Amazon Prime Video!
