It is a sad day when I read one of my beloved "Spook's" books and don't like it!! I got to chapter 6 (which is 60 pages in) and decided to give up and read the last 2 chapters to see what happens in the end. I must admit though that this story is written from a different characters point of view and I think that's why I don't like it. I don't really like Grimalkin, the witch assassin, I prefer to hear the tale from Tom Ward, the spook's young apprentice. I also enjoy The Spook's (John Gregory) humor and wit, which is missing from this installment as all three main characters aren't really featured much. This is the ninth book in the series and hopefully it doesn't matter that I skipped it when I go to read the next one when it comes out later this year. I feel devastated that I'm giving this 1 star :-(

Well, this was different. I feel like this book helped me to go on with the series, it was really interesting and (throw the end) very sad.

I Am Grimalkin stands out as one of the best books in the Wardstone Chronicles. It is brutal and unforgiving, with the author making big decisions in the direction of the storyline. It was shocking in places, quite graphic, and really highlights the darker turn these stories have taken. And I love Grimalkin!

This book was quite a bit more gruesome than the previous Last Apprentice books, but that is to be expected because it is told from the point of view Grimalken, the witch assassin. Grimalkin's story is fascinating in a morbid and dark way and I enjoyed reading it. Still, this is not my favorite book in the series.

After defeating the Fiend and separating his head from his body, Grimalkin (witch assassin) tells her story of the pursuit of creatures of the dark to reunite the head and body and her attempts to survive. Some back story of Grimalkin is given.
