Oof that was rough to get through. Jennette McCurdy is a really strong writer and I was impressed with the way her voice seemed to mature as the book progressed throughout her life. It did a really good job of driving home how young she was when she was subjected to so much abuse.

This book was absolutely heartbreaking and super raw and sensitive, but also at points its even funny? Like some of the things that happens are so stupidly bizarre that you even forget that this is a non-fiction book
As an example, when Mom finds out about Hawaii and we read the mail she sent and the mail where she calls Jennette every insult she can and degrades her at the lowest and the mails ends in something along the lines of "our fridge broke. Send money for another one" I even laughed at the bizardness of it
. Jennette is a super talented writer, i loved how honest she was and not only about her mom, but about other topics like The Creator, the jealousy about Ariana and her ED.

Super proud of her for being able to put all of her feelings in words in a book and with such clarity to it, because at the end of the day it is a book about abuse and how some people, as close to you as you own mom, can screw you up so badly in every single way that there is. Also can't stop thinking about how fucked up it was from Dan Schenider to make McCurdy's character in iCarly so food focused, you ain't going to come and tell me that he didn't know or noticed her conduct towards food lol.

Anyway, an amazing read, 10/10 would recommend.

I'm glad Jennette McCurdy is still creating, I'm glad she's well and I'm glad she's shared this with us.

In her (fantastic, I must say) writing she says that she wants to do something meaningful with her work, and I hope she's seeing all the conversations that her book are opening around abuse and specifically abusive motherhood and childhood exploitation in the acting industry.

This was a hard read at times with how much some parts resonated with me, but it was a needed one. Regardless, please take care of yourself and read the trigger warnings before diving in.

This book came out yesterday if that's any indication of how enraptured I was with Jennette's story. I knew it would get worse as I kept reading yet every time it did get worse I was shocked. This book runs the gambit of horrible life experiences so it might help people heal or it might trigger them so I would be cautious recommending it to people! Overall, Jennette makes her tone and comedy well established throughout. I am in awe of her.

one of the most genuine, raw memoirs i’ve read… as someone who grew up watching icarly it’s devastating to know how much jennette was suffering, abused behind the scenes by her mother and exploited by hollywood

glad to know that she’s in a better place now and yeah, that title is 1000% justified

Prior to this book, I have never had a book be delivered to my house at 3:00PM, dropped everything, and finished it at midnight. I truly loved this book and the way that McCurdy tells her story.

The blurb of this book calls it hilarious but I found it more heartbreaking than funny. This book is a lot heavier than most people were expecting, but I am glad that McCurdy has a space to tell her story.
