I’ve actually never seen iCarly nor did I have any idea who Jennette McCurdy is, so I had the luxury of approaching this as the harrowing tale of how one person’s life was so profoundly affected by one individual, along with the pressures and life experiences of many young women. Really impactful.

Wow! I just finished this book and I'm bottled up with so many emotions. I wouldn't have imagined what Jennette was going through. I'm proud of how raw she was in her memoir. I'm proud of all the steps she has taken to better herself. The book contrary to the title, has made me appreciate my mother more. How she let me grow up and find myself freely, How she never forced me to do anything I didn't like. I'll forever be grateful for her. This was my first memoir and I throughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading more autobiographies and memoirs!

Jennette shows the inside look into being the child of a narcissist and a child star. She is candid about her experiences and how complex the emotions from parental abuse are.

“I’m over it. I’ve become a bitter person and I’m resigned to that fact. I can’t change my circumstances, so why try to change who I’ve become as a result of them? I’m done being a good sport. I resent being a good sport.”
