To be honest I don't know that I'm over the experience of reading this in high school. I thought I was and then I picked up this book.

I can see why this book is an American classic. The plot, the characters, and the writing style. I just struggle to care about any of the characters.

It’s not for me, I didn’t like it at all the first time I read it. Listening to it as an audiobook was far more palatable but still not to my taste.
I appreciate the symbolism, imagery and the cultural influence this story has had but it’s not my favourite.

it’s not a bad book but it’s definitely not for me. It’s like a worse version of evelyn hugo, but with men. I think the narrator guy and gatsby r in love lol. the women in this book r poorly written and really only used as props.

I picked up The Great Gatsby for the second time in my life and found it a lot more pleasant and beautiful than I remember it was when I read it in high school. Daisy and Gatsby were much more rounded characters than I remember them being and the writing is beautiful in many places.

This story is a tragedy and beautiful because of that. Gatsby is a very good cautionary tale about even when you get everything you want, you can still have an empty life. He had an idea of who he wanted to be both with his riches and with having a relationship with Daisy, but while he managed to get both those things at least fleetingly, it didn't mean anything in the end. Nick ended up being his only true friend and everything else was just a mirage.
