i wanted to give this book another shot after just hoe badly i hated it in highschool english. it’s been 16 years and it’s definitely not as a bad as it used to be, but i still just do not like this damn book. the people are all unlikable which is fine by me, but the narrator does no favors to how this story is told. buried under lists of names of people who don’t matter, nonlinear memory, and 1920s excess is a honestly good story about rage, infidelity, grief, and a whole lot of entitlement. but god it’s a miserable read.

In the book we read Nick Carraway’s recollection of a summer spent with Jay Gatsby, his neighbor with the enormous house who hosts ridiculously big parties. We follow him as we meet all sorts of dramatic, shallow, selfish people.

This summary might sound unpleasent but it was just a very interesting read. The way these people are described is very well done (although I was familiar with the film), but basically all of them were annoying and just awful people.

This was such an interesting read in that it's a more modern classic than the others that I've read which were all from the nineteenth century. The language was quite a challenge to get my head around, but I loved the description and even though the characters were all awful people, they were compelling. It was quite a difficult read to begin with, but it did pick up within the last couple of chapters. All in all, this was alright.

Boy, what a journey! I never read this book even though I’ve heard a lot about it. I never thought the story would end like this and I’m quite shocked. Not sure if I loved this book, but it was really great to read.
Don’t hesitate to read it y’all!
