This is book is sooo good!!! I can’t describe how exactly, but everything in it just works, and I couldn’t put it down. Marissa Meyer is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!

4.5/5 stars! Great for readers who enjoyed Heartless.

This retelling has added mythical and fantastical features to it that make it it's own story apart from the short classic we know. While the beginning is slow, I found my self very engaged when the plot started to pick up. There were many extra characters that didn't have to be there, but they brought the story padding and fleshes out the world. And while the twists in the book were easy to see coming, they were still earned by the characterization. I would highly recommend, especially if you enjoyed Heartless.

Alright, let's start with the oh so annoying fact that this book ends on a cliffhanger. And not a minor one, it's not like we got some sort of closure. This just feels like it should have been one big book and it got split into two.
Now to the characters.
The main one is Serilda who's and okey character but sometimes she pisses me off by what she does, cause she doesn't tell people any information nor she asks them anything most of the time.
The outcome of this is an extremely slow paced book because we basically don't know anything about anything..
And there's one more thing. This book is pretty predictable, except when you want it to be. For example I was not expecting it to get so brutal in the end. The vibes are more like fairytale, calm, forest creatures but the book is a lot darker than that.
Nevertheless I liked the book, it's interesting enough and you do want to know the answers, it just gets tedious at times..

I just felt like that was A LOT of build up and the ending is just a big cliffhanger. If you read this you just plan on reading the second one.

This is a really easy read and I find it does have you reaching for the next one the duology as soon as you've finished.
However the second book in the duology is slightly more compelling.
I enjoy the romance of the two main characters although at times it feels rushed, this is not a book for slow burn lovers. It is easy to get past though as the plot is enticing and interesting to follow
