I love Virginia Woolf but this book was sort of disorienting for me. Altogether I found it uneven and greatly lacking in context- I think it should have been published with annotations since VW is often assuming a familiarity of her subject matter that most modern readers would not have in some cases (eg her piece on Montaigne). Nevertheless I found and enjoyed many gems along the way. Particularly fun to read her comments on Hardy, Brontë, Eliot.
