All the stars! I listened to this one and strongly recommend it to connect fully with the characters and their voices in the audio. Misogyny, “good ol boys,” men running the world and sliding up the ladders of success while women struggle to make the climb. All come into play in the testament to women coming into - and grabbing onto - their own power.
Graphic: Sexual assault, Murder, and Violence

This started off really good! But it was just so drawn out and I feel like they gave us drawn out explanations. It could of been 100 pages shorter and still a good book. Also the witchy vibes just weren’t there for me and I wish they touched on it more. Overall it wasn’t a terrible book and had a good time for part of it.

I liked this one!! at times it was slightly preachy/overboard on the feminist front but that’s ok. There were a lot of characters to keep track of but it was nice to read a book that had more depth and personality than most. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and loved their relationships. I didn’t feel too shocked at the end but there were still parts I didn’t totally guess. This was a long one but a well developed novel, I would’ve read more if it was even longer!! 4.5/5

(I actually want to give it 6 stars…)
About the book
Three woman come to learn their midlife crisis brings them extra powers…. They live in a wealthy beach town where they find a body near the beach. They soon find out more girls have been murdered, and they’ll have to investigate the case on their own, since the police claim the victim was “just” a drug addict who run away from home and close the case. The wealthy enclave turns out to be not what it all seems, and they need their newly found strength and power to search for answers and deal with the men who think they can do whatever that want and try to stop their efforts.
My thoughts about the book
I’ve started this book while still in London and was intrigued from the first page. What an amazing book this is! The writing style is fabulous, it’s honest and hilarious at times and shocking when you don’t expect it. I’ve partly listened to the audiobook and January LaVoy did an amazing job giving the badass characters their personality! I loved reading about the backgrounds of Jo, Nessa en Harriet and what formed them, how the years have changed them. The story is intriguing, funny, shocking, and mysterious. I want to be like Harriet!

I came into this book expecting a rage filled manifesto similar to The Power and instead found an enjoyable murder mystery revealed in parallel to women discovering their own talents. I loved the glimpses into to character's backstories, it gave each a depth that was unable to shine through in the the main storyline. There are some dark moments, but generally there is no graphic violence occuring on page.
