ARC received for an honest review
I really didn't know what to expect when I picked up Mercy. All I really knew was that I freaking loved the cover.
Now, I haven't read Beast (which is the story about secondary characters in this book) but that did not matter to me at all - in fact i didn't realise Beast was connected at all until after I finished reading.
I adored Becca and Fenix's story. It is dark and gritty - and a lot stalkery - however it is, beneath it all, a beautiful love story.
I just wanted Nix and Becca to make it - there were so many hurdles thrown in their way, I needed them to fight their way to a HEA.
I adore the main secondary characters, Henry and Dick (from Beast). They are the perfect best friends that a woman can have.
Now, I am a fan of tattoos and have plenty of my own, however I am not a fan of face work. This did not, however, stop me from swooning all over Nix. His actions speak so much louder than ink.
Mercy is full of fun and flirting and sexy times, along with darkness and suspense and some not so nice people.
I was intrigued from the first word to the last.
Ms Anastasia has proven the she can write anything and keep me interested. From fun and flirty, to gross-out purile, to dark and dangerous - I will read it all.
Can't wait to see what she brings us next.

Sometimes you come across a book that is just different. That has you under his spell from page 1. You fall in love with the characters almost immediately and can't believe to fall even more for them, but you do. A book that is so vivid, you can see every sentence in front of your eyes. You lose yourself in the beautiful words, you feel every emotion from heartbreak to being in love with your soulmate.
And at the end of the book, you are not the same person as you were before. This book changed you, gave you a piece of your soul you didn't know you were missing.
Mercy was this book for me.

Ahhhh where to beginnn!
I’m just going to list my dislikes .
1.) The names….. they are all so bad! Phoenix but spelled “Fénix”. … Henry who is actually a woman and dates a guy named Dick. …. Fenix’s BFF’s name is Animal and he’s a big burly black man that calls him “Baby” at the oddest times and fair frequently. I’m all for bromance and more openness toward healthier friendships between men, that include the intimacy that denial friendships do….. but him routinely calling him “Baby” felt forced.
2.) Animal and Nix….. it’s weird. Animal calls him “Baby” Aand “sweetness” routinely. Nix talks about how large and muscled Animal is…. Routinely. It was just really weird and killed my vibe.
3.) yes yes Nix’s daddy was mean to him when he was little. But I don’t think we ever got an explanation about how he’s become so dangerous. Like his past is his reason why. Butttt how?
4.) his stalking seemed more like pepping Tom that she happens to be attracted to, vs Hot man that I would love to stalk me. …. Nix is insecure and broken…. Which is FINE…. But not what I personally want to read. Life is hard, men are difficult…. I want my book boyfriends to be dreamy, tall, dark , and strong….. NOT fretting about whether I like them.
5.) the FMC ( who’s name I can’t remember) seems a bit tooooo manufactured for me…. Her mom is annoying AF , but she still dutifully plays the loving daughter role. She’s immediately fine with the fact that Nix stalked her ( though half heartedly in my opinion…. ) she works at a dive bar where she’s the super hot waitress & friends with the other super hot waitress that also works at the bar. She’s fun, she’s pretty, she’s almost perfect but she just needs BF.
6.) the villain doesn’t make sense. Nix deals with the criminal underworld but the person after his woman is his drunken abusive father who’s come back from exile to torture her because she told him a she was a “Bad Man” as a little girl….. whet???
7.) lastly I could have gotten over all of this but this was also just not my brand of romance. It was way too sweet for me.

THE BEST STALKER ROMANCE ICE EVER READ.
I absolutely loved Nix and Becca.
I completely fell in love with them, their little touches and kisses and hugs and everything. LIKE OMG. YES GIVE ME MOREE. SO MUCH MORE.
Nix seemed like this “bad boy” DARK ROMANCE type of guy. But he seriously is just a whole cinnamon roll and the way he talks about Becca is just to die for. He was so obsessed with her, “Literally”. He cares so deep for people important in his life, and he definitely shows it.
ALSO BECCA. Such a great character. I love how supportive and understanding she actually was. She did not left Nix for a minute. AMAZING PERSON.
And them together was just everything. It was such a good read!! I look forward to seeing more of Mercy books in the future.

Becca waits tables at a popular local bar in town, Memes. Her best friend works with her and her biggest worry in life is circumventing her mother's attempts to find her a guy that is perfect "husband material". Unbeknownst to her, all her steps are being monitored. Even the claw game she plays online was created with the solo purpose of keeping tabs on her.
Mercy (Fenix, or Nix) is an accomplished hacker and a skilled assassin. He's practically a legend in the underworld - with his whole body covered in a skeleton tattoo, including his face, he's developed an aura of mystery and fear. He's a man of many secrets and the biggest one is his obsession with Becca. They met as children, when she defended him and faced off his father who had literally just killed his mother in front of him hours before. He never forgot her kindness and vowed to protect her. It was that moment of kindness that gave him strength and kept him alive.
Now, as an adult, he protects her from afar, but when a "Day of The Dead" themed costume party is promoted at Memes, the opportunity arises for them to meet. He'll blend in with the crowd in costumes. Practically forced to go by his best friend, he caves and they hit to off. But Becca thinks he's "in costume" and when they meet, he brings all the dangers to her door. But he will do anything to keep her safe. Anything.
Mercy is a "light" dark romance - with enough dark elements without veering into disturbing. Yes, he's a cold-blooded killer, but his fate was not a choice. He's also a stalker moved by the noble desire to protect the only person who has ever stood for him. I didn't think I could empathize with a murdering stalker but whaddya know? He's swoony! If you like a pining hero, Nix will hit the spot.
Like in all stories with evil crime lords, you sometimes feel things go a little over the top, but it all makes sense in this story. The friendship between Nix and Animal, the way he cares for his sister and for little Christina help in making you root for the killer with a skull tattoo on his face. I absolutely loved it!
Narration: Muffy Newton and Zachary Webber. You give this two material to sink their teeth into and you get a glorious narration!
Rep and possible triggers: FMC has dysgraphia. Kidnapping, murder, torture harassment, extreme mistreatment of a child by a parent, death of a parent, foster care, cancer diagnosis and treatment
