Well that was a waste of 26 hours.

It really is a lotr RIP off.

This was a DNF at about 20%. I was so bored, the writing was uninspiring and read like a detailed summary rather than an actual narrative, the characters felt flimsy and wishy-washy, and nothing was interesting.

Disappointing

I could only get to page 99 and really had to force myself to get there. This is a poorly written knock off of Lord of the Rings. It's almost comical how much it parallels-minus the great character building and amazing writing.

I absolutely loved this book in middle school. I still enjoyed it this time around but its definitely not as good as I remember.

Easy reading and accessible ish fantasy. Horrible over reliance on lotr themes and plot though, and the first female character didn't turn up until page 450+.

This is the most "we have the Lord of Rings at home" a book could possibly be. That said, there was still something charming about it and everyone says the sequels are better so I'll check them out

I know the similarities with the Lord of the Rings are intended, but coupled with the writing, I'm finding it a bit too boring to continue.
