Classic, dramatic fantasy. Long on action and heroism. A bit drawn out but moves quickly nonetheless. Excellent narrator.
It took me 6 months to read this book...not because it's so long (which it is) but because there was always something more interesting to read than a generic high fantasy story that was basically Lord of the Rings in a post-apocalyptic setting. Still, I guess I'll give the next book I try before I decide if I'll read the rest of the series or not. Man, 6 months...

È la copia brutta del signore degli anelli
dripping in tropes and cliches, and largely just a (less successful) rehash of LOtR, but I still found it enjoyable. And the elements that are unique were interesting.
This was the first fantasy book I read, way back in the 7th grade. I have re-read it at least once every five years since then. I don't like the character of Shea as much as I do Menion and Flick. Menion and Flick seem to grow more to me. They end up making more of their own choices, rather than just letting things happen to them. As an introduction to the fourn lands, I really liked it. There are other volumes that I enjoyed better than this one. I know that some people can't get past how similar it is to JRR Tolkien. I liked this better, mainly because I couldn't get past the hobbits being three feet tall with big hairy feet. Concerning the annotated edition: the notes are okay, but certainly not worth forking out an additional $25+ for the hard cover of a book I already own.

I enjoyed the beginning and back story but with each chapter it became harder and harder to read. It seemed just like a list of what the characters did with out much exposition. Kept trying to force myself to read another chapter but I have finally given up.
