This was a great novella. I loved the second chance love story. The writing was fast paced and sucks you in immediately.

After one passionate night a decade ago, Valentine Fairfax, Duke of Eastleigh, never forgot Isabelle, the intelligent, witty and forbidden daughter of a head of college at Oxford. However, since suffering a disastrous marriage to an unfaithful wife, the duke has vowed never to succumb to temptation again. Until the day he discovers his friend’s governess is the one woman who still haunts his dreams.

Once penniless, Isabelle Cortland has finally saved enough money to finance a school for impoverished girls. But when a chance encounter rekindles buried desires, Isabelle knows she can’t be a duke’s mistress and a headmistress at the same time. No longer a naïve girl, Isabelle won’t repeat the past. Not even for one night of surrender...

Meet the unforgettable men of London's most notorious tavern, The Wicked Duke. Seductively handsome, with charm and wit to spare, one night with these rakes and rogues will never be enough…

They are two very stubborn people set on never marrying again, but fate has other plans for them. That spark was still there and hadn’t dulled in the past ten years. I loved that every time they tried to stay away from each other something would toss them together. Surrendering once wasn’t going to be enough for either of them. I loved how his sister and grandmother got involved and didn’t beat around the bush.

Isabelle loves her independence and isn’t going to let a sudden change make her relay on anyone. I loved that she wasn’t going to let anything stop and how educated she was.

Val knew they had something special all those years ago and knows he can’t let her go this time. I loved everything he did to make sure she was taken care of and that he knew it was her with his sister.

I hope his sister has a story coming soon because she was amazing and I wouldn’t mind seeing his grandmother again.

Both the writing style and the plot make this book a fast and easy, romantic read. The setting is lovely and there are several interesting secondary characters, some of whom will probably still get their own story further along in this new series.

For me it did lack a bit of emotional depth, and whatever obstacles there were, were either of the characters own making or too easily overcome. Throughout the story the author required a little too much suspension of disbelief. The love between Val and Isabelle isn’t all that convincing to me and I had a hard time warming up to Val.

As good as the first book absolutely loved it! Viola would have to be my favourite character so far.
