Very unique and intrigueing idea but it wasn't executed as well as I had hoped it would be. The characters seemed one dimensional and Lena in particular did a complete u turn with regards to her thoughts about love. Why was she so drawn to him? I'm sure in the course of her life she has seen other attractive guys and they obviously strengthened her resolve that the cure was the best thing. Strengthened up until a time period of about 3 minutes when she seemed to completely change not only her view but personality traits.
This book unfolded with unanswered questions to satisfy me. How was the cure discovered? Why did so many people so easily and happily embrace it? What happens at 18 that makes it so much safer than a few months before? Obviously I wasn't expecting real, scentifically accurate answers, but some pseudo science would have really added authenticity to the concept. This combined with plot inconsistencies seemed to be the main reason I cannot award any more stars.
On the bright side, I did love the opening quotes every chapter. Very well thought out just a pity the philosophical references were there while science and realism were disregarded.

I liked this book a lot more than I thought I would. I am not one for mushy love stories which is what this seemed to be. But more than the teenage love story my thoughts/emotions kept dwelling on how sad it would be for all children to grow up in a world where their parents felt only indifference to them and not love. And how depressing it would be for no one to really care about others and to not feel any emotional ties to your family and friends. Not to get too churchy but it did make me think a lot about the beauty of the plan of salvation. I liked this one a lot better than most of the dystopias I have read recently. It seemed to be a cross between Matched and Uglies but in a more modern/similar world to ours. And the ending....sheesh. I need to get my hands on the next one!
This was a fun YA dystopian novel. a society where people have surgery to remove the ability to love.. because the idea is that love causes people to go crazy.
Really liked the story - can't wait to read the next one in the series.
- Enjoyed the concept
- Good story-telling
- Genuinely want to continue the book series
- 'Generic' main character cliche - so the reader can 'imagine themselves as the girl' which I dont really like that much
- A bit unrealistic in places

cried at the end but i love this book sm
author does a very good job of describing stuff though i will say it’s a bit of a slow read at first but towards the end i just couldn’t put it down
overall a great book i’m a huge fan of dystopian so this really worked but it gets 4 stars because i think the end was a little rush and i really think the author could have spaced it out a little better maybe
i also wish we could have seen more of alex and hana cause i think they would have been great friends
