I’m going to rate it because it’s not that I didn’t finish it, I just had to skim that last 100 pages. This started off do so good but shit got confusing halfway through and I struggle enough with changes of love interests and I was just thinking wtf who am I even rooting for in this book?
Anyway, disappointed and after reading a super detailed review of book 2 I don’t be reading it.

DNF - 35%
I COULD NOT get into this one... I know it has a decent rating but I read quite a bit of fantasy romance and this one really missed the mark when it comes to me as a reader.
I kept thinking to myself what the hell is going on? I was so confused, I couldn't figure out which man was the person I should actually be caring about because I personally didn't like any characters, especially the main heroine. After a while I just came to GR in search of spoilers and found a lovely 2 star review that laid out the whole synopsis and it solidified for me that I will absolutely hate this book. So I am DNFing and back dating my read date so that it doesn't count for my 2022 tracker. What a waste of time. Life is too short to keep going if you aren't digging a story after 130 pages.
Note - I never give a 1 star, but in this situation I'm making an exception.

When I heard Ella Fields was writing a fantasy book, I thought I bet it will be so good, and I wasn't wrong. For her first attempt at writing a fantasy book she killed it. The story was written so well that it keeps you wanting more from these characters. I really hope we get more of this from her. Ella has shown she is capable of writing anything and it will turn out wonderful
Re-read. Listened to the audiobook. Even better than the first time!
Holy cow-I freaking loved this book. I downloaded it on Kindle unlimited, but I need to just buy a paperback because I know I'm going to want to reread it.
The way Ella Fields slowly unraveled the story was flawless. With each page she gave you a little more intrigue, keeping me flipping pages well into the night. I loved how nothing was ever what it seemed and the more we knew, the more the story evolved.
This story has some of my favorite characters I've read in a while. The queen was dark

at 12% after a whole week of going nowhere. I’m lost y’all. This book ain’t for me, unfortunately.

This story is what morally gray romantasy dreams are made of. I devoured this story, desperately wanting to know what was going to happen from page one! I absolutely adored the complexity of these characters, there were so many layers to this story and I was SCREAMING with all of the twists and turns. This story made me fall in love with Ella Fields and I will never get enough of this world, these characters or these stories. I have read this story three times (once via audio) and each time it hits just as hard and emotional.
The way Ella Fields wrote this made me feel like I was slowly piecing together a puzzle and I was so satisfied with the final picture that was this book.
This book has love, magic, betrayal, lust, many morally grey characters. Just when you think you’ve got a hold on the plot, things switch up.
I loved Audra and seeing her humanity through her constant battle with her broken heart. This was by no means some fairy tale romance but it still held me in its grasp.
