I enjoyed the Shades of Magic series, but liked the final book the least so I was really excited to come back to the world in the hope that this book would be better - and I wasn't disappointed!

I loved Tes and Kosika so much, their characterisations and their storylines really helped to draw me back into the world. I also really loved seeing where the original characters have ended up 7 years later, and how that time has helped them change and grow. The story and the mystery itself wasn't too complex, and didn't feel particularly sinister or pressing, but I expect that will develop more in the next book.

Overall I just really loved this book.

This book is a loveletter to the first series, and felt more like a chance to explore the setting and characters as they've grown. It reminded me why I loved the first series, and it was a welcome return. I did feel, however, that Delilah Bard was cut short towards the end of the book. In the end, she just becomes downright cruel in how she deals with others, which felt unfair to the character. She's always been driven, willing to what it takes, but in the last hundred pages there were many moments that felt like she was actually meant to be the villain. A lot of her development happened between the first series and this one, and maybe that's why it felt unearned, but I don't know.
I still loved all the other characters, and the introduction of new ones was lots of fun. I'm looking forward to spending more time in Red London, and White.

Riveting & magical. Reality was suspended throughout the entirety of this book. Perfect for an escapist like me.

Revisiting a series can be a tricky endeavor for an author but Schwab absolutely nails it with this one.  It was such a treat to return to the Londons to check in on all our favorite characters from the original series.  The introduction of the new characters was excellent too - they get their own time to shine but interwoven with Kell, Delilah, and the gang from the original Shades of Magic series.  I can't wait to see where those characters will take us through Red and White (and maybe more of Black and Grey?) London in future books!
