I have really enjoyed the Cormoran Strike series, and especially was hooked to book #3 in the series, however, this one fell a bit short for me. There was some great movement with the relationships between Robin, Matthew, and Strike, but the main story itself did not pique my interest in the same way the previous books had.
This novel picks up on Cormoran and Robin's story right where the last one ended then flash-forwards to a year later. A mentally unstable man enters Strike's office talking about a murder he witnessed as a child, which then leads Strike to a job with a government official. Nothing too new here - a controversy to cover up due to lying, cheating, and self-interest.
Looking forward to where life takes Robin and Cormoran next.
I recommend this series to high schoolers / adults looking for a good crime / mystery series.

Not my favorite of the 4, but I'll happily devour any story about Cormoran & Robin. This was a little too complicated a plot and a little too long, but highly enjoyable nevertheless.
there is a decent thriller in here, but it is absolutely suffocated by the tons of padding the author inflicts on her readers. the incessant Strike/Robin relationship drama chokes the life out of the book. it is so cloyingly repetitious that i wanted to scream. i was really enamored with the first two books in this series and deeply regret that that this, and volume three, are so bad. i'll never read another. what a mess.
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down, just like the other Strike books.

This is going to be bad... I loved this series. But this fourth installment - it was too long, too much drivel between Robin and Matthew, Robin and Cormoran, and even the other characters. I would go 30 minutes at a time not listening and it wouldn’t even matter. This book just dragged on and on. The story and even plot just rambled. Glad to be done with it, disappointed I accrued late fees at the library for it.
