Emily is not dealing well with the aftermath of being infected on purpose during high school. Her plans for her future were dashed, and she went into seclusion. A wildfire destroyed her home, so she's been homeless for the last couple of years, living and hunting in her owl form when she's not working.

Daniel has been looking for her ever since the trial. He was part of the group that attacked her, but was doing his best to protect her. Turns out it was his strand that infected her. He now works for the CDC, and now that he's found her ... he plans on starting his lengthy courtship. It's absolutely adorable how he goes about it. Emily is struggling with her new reality. She's getting her life back, and dealing with a very determined Daniel. She has a very specific betrothal gift she requires.

Very insta-love type story, but perfect for the length of the book.

I listened to this on audible and I gotta say I really adored Emily as a character. Something about how blood thirsty she was just endeared her to me, no idea why. As far as a love story goes, it was a but businesslike for me to buy that part and I gotta say I was completely disappointed that when it came down to the really gory parts she didn't really get to participate. I just don't see the point in building her up to a strong independent woman only to have her sheltered and cosseted when push comes to shove. Also I felt a little cheated that this cuts out before the wedding and the aftermath. Overall though I liked the story.

While it was a good, short and enjoyable read, it wasn't as good (or as funny) as others like Hearth, Home, and Havoc or Whatever for Hire. 3.5*
