A good Little Women adaptation for middle grade readers. I would recommend this for the younger of middle grade readers and having knowledge of the original is not a must.

To be honest, not a whole lot happens in this book. It was a cutesy and fluffy kind of read with modern day changes to the March family. Everything was overly positive though from Beth being ill to Jo coming out as gay. It did touch briefly on more realistic topics of the present day but it felt too positive to seem relatable.

I like this graphic novel but I can’t help but compare it to Little Women. (I think I liked it more then Anne, but that could be because I like AOGG more than LW).

I love the ideas Kathleen Gros brings to these classics! Truly! But sometimes I feel like these ideas would translate so much better in an original work. (And I want to read some original stuff soon!)

I missed Teddy (why did we not learn his name?? their friendship felt rushed), I wondered how old Amy was (she seemed very young but was in middle school?  fifth grader maybe?), and other things I’m forgetting that bothered me throughout the story.

But the plot did center a lot on the sisters and on Jo finding her own voice through writing which I loved! And the “romance” (they’re in middle school haha) was predictable but good.

This retelling of "Little Women" is fantastic. It made me smile, laugh and cry happy tears. I'm so glad I stumbled across Kathleen Gros' graphic novels.
