I'm sort of shocked at how much I enjoyed this. I loved the gore. I thought the romance was well developed, and the highs and lows in the relationship made sense. The pacing took a minute to get use to, but overall it was used well for the storytelling. I enjoyed the alternating POVs but sometimes I found Sloane to be a bit one dimensional. The writing was solid and the ending was well executed. Honestly, this was fun to read and I look forward to checking out the rest of the series.

Absolute perfection. I loved every single thing about this book. Finished it in 1 day, I just couldn’t put it down.

The story did move pretty fast, but honestly it was kinda nice and it didn’t feel rushed at all. The banter between Rowan and Sloane was phenomenal and their relationship was beautiful.

It was everything I didn’t know I needed.

Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver is an absolutely captivating read that hooks you from the very first page. With masterful plot twists and brilliant character development, it delivers a thrilling and page-turning experience that won’t disappoint.

I found myself completely invested in characters’ journeys right away. Weaver crafts a story full of suspense, intrigue, and unexpected turns that kept me on my toes until the very end.

This book is an absolute gem, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Several trigger warnings so proceed with caution!

🌶️🌶️🌶️ (not a lot of spice but very graphic spice)

I really liked it until they got together- even though the entire time the unrealistic-ness of the plot bothered me a bit. I was half expecting them to reveal that there was a serial killer social media app at some point with the way they all seemed to know each other.

After they got together all of the tension left the book and the rest just seemed to be relationship drama.

At least now I know what a fourchette piercing is!

Surprisingly tame + lighthearted for the amount of horror content? I thought it was going to be a lot darker but it was a surprisingly good romance?

The fact that they only killed other serial killers also helped their case...

The first half was very murdery/dark but then we transitioned into a kitchen/restaurant book and honestly that was a bit jarring...I kind of forget they were murderers with how relatively normal their lives were?

The Big Baddie was also a bit out of left field? It didn't seem plausible at all and was just a bit unexpected and not in a good way so I took off a star for that....
Spoiler Rant on the Antagonist:
What kind of cover a lobotomized servant anyways? And he just spent months washing dishes and at a care home as a cover? Just to get closer to them? I feel like there were better ways of doing this...Esp. when it was Sloan's idea to drive him cross-country to give him a job. Also, I felt like he wasn't hinted at or teased at all? He just showed up and that's it?

Will probably pick up book 2

This was a fun book. The MMC was more intriguing and interesting than the FMC. I listened on audible and think that the narrator made me more intrigued to finish this book. Had I read it on my own then I don’t think I would have finished it. The pacing is crazy fast and sometimes confusing. There were alot of time skips and jumps, even in the middle of chapters. Sometimes I had to go back and reread several paragraphs. It’s like a rom-com (the main characters have okay banter back and forth) but if it was Dexter or something lol
