“It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye, and then that’s when the real fun begins.” Imagine Dexter as a rom-com with a healthy dose of smut, and you’ve got Butcher & Blackbird. It’s dark, twisted, and yet somehow incredibly fun. This book surprised me in the best way possible! Sloane and Rowan are serial killers, but somehow, they’re also completely adorable—and yes, I can’t believe I’m calling serial killers "adorable." The characters are so well-written that you end up relating to them in ways you never expected.

The book is packed with fantastic descriptions, sharp humor, and unforgettable moments. That said, it comes with all the trigger warnings. It doesn’t shy away from tough topics, but if you can handle them, it’s an unforgettable ride. Highly recommend for fans of dark romance and unconventional storytelling!

Fun concept, nice spice, LOVED the voice actors in the audiobook. However,
where are the cops in this town? They keep leaving what I feel like is a HEAPING paper and DNA trail at all of their murders. Naming your restaurant BUTCHER AND BLACKBIRD is a crazy thing to do if you’re trying to avoid detection. Having sex at a murder scene is a huge pool of DNA I fear. I wish there was more description dedicated to how they clean the murder scenes up to avoid detection.
A bit less based in reality than Lights Out, but still fun and lots of banter. Time jumps irked me though as I felt it took away from time we could have been getting to know these characters separately. I still don’t know what Sloane does for work.

Was it fun? Yes. Was it super graphic? Yes. Did it (like it warned it would) ruin some of my favorite foods? Also, yes. Will I be reading any of the other books in the series? Maybe. But I think one might be enough for me.

“I would kill for you, and I have. I would do it again, every damn day. I’d turn myself inside out for you. I would die for you.”

This book is a bloody good time. A sexy, gorey love story between two serial killers? Count me in! In my journey to find my romance book niche, I seem to have once again hit gold - because this, this was right up my alley.

This rom-com really is the perfect mix of horror and comedy. It had me giggling, gasping, and cringing - often times in quick succession. Full of ridiculous, fun, and sometimes downright shocking events as Rowan and Sloane stumble and murder their way into each other’s hearts. The characters are hilariously ruthless, yet simultaneously cute. The romance perfect. And the kills the right amount of gruesome. This book was a lot of fun, in all its bloody, eye-plucking, gorey glory.

Head the trigger warnings!

Is this best book you’ll ever read? Probably not.  Is it book that takes heavy and often gross situations, and brings dark humor? Yes! It’s a quick read and decently paced. It’s fun and a little dark and macabre.  I had fun with it.

Surprisingly tame + lighthearted for the amount of horror content? I thought it was going to be a lot darker but it was a surprisingly good romance?

The fact that they only killed other serial killers also helped their case...

The first half was very murdery/dark but then we transitioned into a kitchen/restaurant book and honestly that was a bit jarring...I kind of forget they were murderers with how relatively normal their lives were?

The Big Baddie was also a bit out of left field? It didn't seem plausible at all and was just a bit unexpected and not in a good way so I took off a star for that....
Spoiler Rant on the Antagonist:
What kind of cover a lobotomized servant anyways? And he just spent months washing dishes and at a care home as a cover? Just to get closer to them? I feel like there were better ways of doing this...Esp. when it was Sloan's idea to drive him cross-country to give him a job. Also, I felt like he wasn't hinted at or teased at all? He just showed up and that's it?

Will probably pick up book 2
