This book is very important but also very dark! I wasn't ready for how dark this book got at times, but i did actually enjoy it the way the book didn't shy away from more horrific topics or descriptions.

I felt as though the main character didnt have as much of a personality as she mother and thats the i couldnt give this more then 3.5 because i just felt that the characters other then the mom were lacking.

I like the mutism aspect and little minor details regarding that as well.

i would totally recommend reading bitter first. it shows you the world, some of the characters, and the situation that leads you to the beginning of this book. this is a great read! Emezi is a phenomenal writer.

The truth does not change whether it is seen or unseen, it whispered in her mind. A thing which is happening happens whether you look at it or not. And yes, maybe it is easier not to look. Maybe it is easier to say because you do not see it, it is not happening. Maybe you can pull the stone out of the pool and put the moon back together.

Be Not Afraid.
I loved this with my entire heart.

This book is so good! As a YA, I felt it encapsulates its messages in such a clear, understandable way. The metaphors within were amazing. Same with it’s overarching message that even if you can’t see something doesn’t mean it’s not there. I did find there to be a lot of repetition, but for me it didn’t really take way anything or feel misplaced. Overall, it’s just an amazing book!
