I thought this was going to be a DARK AND TWISTED retelling but it was really just Alice Through the Looking Glass all over again. Nonsensical to the point of annoying and unreadable. So disappointing.
this might be because of my once upon a time phase, but fairytale stories with dark/modern twists are fantastic

This was a lovely extension of the original tales of Alice! She's grown now, 18, and still learning about herself through the adventures in Wonderland. She also begins to see similarities between Wonderlandians and her neighbors in Kexford. And you can't help but fall in love with....someone ;) .... So good!
I really should have known this was not the book for me. I continued it for a game, but would have DNF it otherwise. I never liked the original Wonderland books, but I thought this would be a more mature version since Alice is older. I especially would have liked her to act more like an 18 year old of the time period. However, I gave it three stars as I do feel it kept with the original writing style. I think people who enjoyed the Wonderland books would not be disappointed.

Buen re-telling.

Might circle back around to this one eventually, but I think I'm having trouble properly getting into this one because there have simply been so many different sequels to Alice in Wonderland - the canon novel Through the Looking Glass, the live action Disney movie, other "YA Retellings" - that I can't help but feel that reading this has felt more or less similar to fanfiction in structure, which previous books in the series by Liz have not. It's definitely not the fault of the author, who has written some of my favorites in the series, and I'm sure when I inevitably come back around to this one I'll find pleasant surprises in certain reveals that she seems to be setting up (spoilers)
I inherently trust her inclusion of Katz as a character, as I've never been disappointed with any Original character she's added into a story, and I expect that in a similar vein to "Straight on til Morning" (given Alice + Peter Pan take place in Similar backdrops of history) this story will see Alice saving Wonderland but also realizing that her smart wit and imagination is better served leaning into the real-world activism she's already begun to exhibit and take a more active role in fighting against the anti-immigrant sentiments that pervade her country, perhaps with some wrap up back in the real world about choosing to court Katz in an interracial relationship rather than any of the sorts of nationalist men her sister is bringing around.
