Aus naheliegenden Gründen vergleichbar mit 'Im Westen nichts neues'. Während das jedoch dadurch bewegt, wie diese jungen Menschen im Krieg verrohen, durch fast beiläufig erzählte grausame Kriegsszenen aus der Ich-Perspektive, fühlt sich dieses Buch etwas dramatischer geschrieben an.
Obwohl weniger erschreckend durch Kriegsszenen ist es doch emotional ähnlich eindrücklich.

Just as depressing as the previous book. The themes are a hard and accurate portrayal. It is a sad book full of harsh truth though it suffers in comparison to the masterpiece that is All Quiet on the Western Front. 

The plot is less tight and I found the messaging muddled. This could be due to the translation but it just wasn't as impactful. I thought that the wandering plot, while mirroring the post-war mentality well, felt confusing from the reader perspective.
