CWs: cancer, murder, infidelity

Marissa and Matthew Bishop seek out therapist turned life coach Avery Chambers to counsel them after Marissa is unfaithful. In her ten-step program, Avery takes the couple on an unconventional journey to fix underlying issues in their marriage and dig through the secrets the couple keeps. Through love and heartbreak, both Marissa and Matthew want to stay together and will do anything to stay together.

Told in a dual POV through Marissa and Avery’s characters, secrets stay hidden until the last few chapters. As both characters race to fix a marriage within ten sessions, they both struggle to accept their own truths and conquer facing them together.

A captivating novel with two wildly different characters, I was hooked from the very beginning. Every time I believed novel was going one way, I was proved wrong and led in a different direction. By the end, I had no idea what was going to happen until it happened.

This book is kind of boring. It starts down the path of great thriller elements plenty of times and then just kind of… fizzles. I found myself finishing it just to figure out how they were going to end a story that didn’t really feel like it was going anywhere. There was no sense of compulsion to any of the events, and the whole thing felt somewhat disjointed.
And then it just ended with the husband being the bad guy? Boring!
I will say, I didn’t see the twist coming, but as soon as it happened it felt like a cop-out.
AND the pharmaceutical company storyline was TOTALLY unnecessary

The hype is real! If you like domestic thrillers, then you’ll love this one. The audiobook edition is definitely elevated by having two narrators to reflect the different POVs in this book.

Super underwhelming! Avery was the best character, some of the twists were extremely predictable and the ones that weren't felt unexciting. It is hard to talk about this book without spoiling but there was a whole plot point that felt extremely unneeded and added heaviness to the plotline which made is so slow moving. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters. I will say the tension is built pretty well and I had to keep reading: but less so because it was a good book and more because I needed to know the ending.
