This was such a heavy, wonderful, real book. My Grandma had dementia and got to the point where she didn’t recognize us, never asked about my Grandpa, only mentioned her parents, and eventually had trouble forming sentences that we could understand. It was heartbreaking, just like this book. I was a little confused at the end, maybe as an American I missed a subtle detail, but I wasn’t exactly sure what the resolution was, but I do know I had big feelings reading this

I knew this book was gonna destroy me from the moment I requested it on Netgalley. Yet I didn't think I was gonna be five minutes into the book and already tearing up but that's exactly what happened. I finished this book and was trying to decide what just happened while crying because OH MY GOD so many emotions. The way this book talked about growing up, growing old, family, coming to terms with your identity and the relationship between grandmother and granddaughter was just beautiful. This road trip story is one that will always have a soft spot in my heart and I truly recommend it. Between the characters, the art, and the story it felt like hugging a loved one goodbye while also being comforted by them.

TW: homophobic remarks, alzeheimer, loss

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for my earc.

Oh my heart...we will all grow older but it isn’t always easy to face that reality. This heartwarming tale of an impromptu and somewhat illegal road trip for Clementine and her Grammy was a quick read that pulled directly on the heartstrings. My heart feels so big after reading this, with both grief at the shortness of life and thankfulness for the beauty that can be found if we stop and acknowledge it.

Love this book, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to experience this masterpiece.

This was such a beautiful, emotional graphic novel about a young woman and her grandma, who has Alzheimer and is slowly forgetting about who she is and the people around her.

The premise is that we have a young lady taking her sick grandma out of a nursing home so they get on a road trip. And believe me when I tell you, a lot of unfortunate yet hilarious things happen before they can both see the place her grandma once called home when she was little.

The art style makes it a quick read but do not mistake this as simple. It is a compelling story about who we are, everything that makes us “us”, and the simple little things we get to enjoy when we’re growing up.

Now, I gotta admit I was emotional over this ‘cause it was beautiful to see two people sharing the simplest things as taking a bath, eating some take-out food and even some meaningless jokes that make you smile like a kid. Figuring out who you are might come from unexpected experiences and it’s always better when you decide you just want to make the best of your life, even if you fail.

Last but not least, Alzheimer is a disease we don’t really know much of and it’s always hard on the patient as well as the family. Especially when we see how they’re slowly forgetting about the things that we once cherished. Still, it’s such I beautiful story I cannot recommend it enough.

I received an e-book ARC in exchange for an honest review via NetGalley.
