Forget Me Not by Alix Garin was an intense graphic novel. When I finished it I was in tears.

Clémence is a stundent and an actress. Her grandmother is in a nursing home because she has Alzheimer... and when Clémence saw her, she immediatly thought that she will be safer in a specialised home.
The next day decides to take her on a roadtrip to her childhood's house.

The trip is not that simple for Clémence, because take care of a person with Alzheimer is so hard. The one with this disease can forget every memories or regress in a "child" state. Sometimes can have clear moment, but suddenly can be aggressive or sad.

Even with other things that happen along the way, they finally reach the house. But I can't say nothing more!

The interaction between the two women made me so happy - but also really sad. When I was reading I couldn't cry because of so many thoughts about life, family and time. When Granny spokes about her past I'd like to give her a huge hug.

The ending broke my heart in pieces. I knew it from the start that I will be devastated by this work.

The art style is wonderful! I really loved how this graphic novel seemed so "delicate".

A sweet and moving graphic novel of remembering. Clemence breaks her grandmother out of her nursing home to take her away from it all and give her one last adventure where she knows she'll feel loved. In doing so, Clemence faces the struggles of a successful road trip, from having enough money to gas to knowing the directions for where they need to go. But she has to do it for her grandmother; she can't stand to see her withering away on her own, slowly losing her memory. Meanwhile, Clemences mind is remembering what it was like to grow up with her mother and grandmother, and hoping that she shared her love for them both enough over the years for them to both still feel it
The illustrations were gorgeous. Garin makes good use of the blank spaces, and dozens of emotions are displayed throughout countless wordless boxes, shown rather than told. Interspersed throughout the story are snapshots of Clemence sitting in an investigation room with police officers, and I couldn't help but wonder what was coming. The adventure was delightful, and kept me reading, hoping for the outcome they were both searching for.
I would definitely read more from Garin, and thank you to he publisher for approving access to this ARC.

e-Arc provided by Europe Comics via Net Galley for Review. All thoughts are my own.

Plot
This graphic novel follows Clémence, an Actress and student, struggling with her Grandmother's failing health, and dementia. Her grandmother keeps breaking out of the nursing home to try and visit her childhood home. Clémence decides to break her grandmother out, and go on a road trip across France to visit the home.

The story is shown through the road trip, and flashbacks to Clémence's childhood - during which she spent a lot of time with her Grandmother.

Thoughts
I really loved the art style, it was really gorgeous soft colouring. The artist used shades of black, white and red in various flashbacks.

The Queer storyline in this, is a small part of it. As Clémence is struggling with her sexuality while on this road trip.

We also gets flashes of Clémence speaking to police officers, but it is not clear why until nearer to the end. At first I thought she was just imagining these conversations - as there was a part when she envisioned a police car chasing her for taking her grandmother.

I loved the relationship between Clémence and her grandmother. Despite her poor memory, the love between the pair is shown so beautifully.

I would highly recommend if you're looking for a quick, not so light hearted contemporary, graphic novel.

"How about we kiss the sea, Grammy? "

This comic made me emotional. I was sobbing throughout the whole book. I lost both my grandparents when i was only a child and this book perfectly pointed out what I'm missing out. It's cute, heartfelt and also very disturbing and gut wrenching at times.

A road trip of a young woman and her much older grandma who's suffering from Alzheimer's is the premise of this story. which follows the exploration of a beautiful relationship shared by them. It's terrifyingly beautiful and pure.

But It's not all cute and fluffy. It's bitter and poignant at It's core. It talks about toxic masculinity, sexist behaviour. Be it Clemence's boyfriend asking her to act like She's enjoying the sex, cause it hurts his male ego! Or be it, people's assuming her She's not being capable.... It just mirrored the narrow mindset of our society. Though Clem's sexuality wasn’t mentioned certainly there was also a brief encounter with a girl.

Art style was also pretry impressive. Overall a good read. Would recommend.

Nb : Some parts contain nudity

"I forget. I think I'm losing my mind. But it's worse when it comes back."

"I never told Ma what I needed to tell her. Even though I had lots of opportunities. 'Too late' arrives sooner than we think. Promise me you'll never forget that, Clemence."

Forget Me Not by Alix Garin is an absolute gem. It tells the story of Clemence and her grandma suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It's tender heartfelt, emotional, and deeply moving.

It's a beautiful story and I highly recommend picking it up, you won't regret it!

I'm honestly at a lost for words. I will be writing a more thorough review of this artwork soon when I have my sh*t together.
