Eu não sou muito fã de livros onde o único objetivo do enredo é fazer o leitor chorar. Prefiro aquelas que a gente nem nota, mas se conectou com os personagens e situações bobas se tornam marcantes e emocionantes. Essa graphic novel tem essa vibe. É um livro que em muitos sentidos parece um adeus. Ao contar sobre uma aventura inesperada de Clémence e sua Grammy, a gente vê alguns momentos do passado delas, enquanto acompanha a road trip não planejada no presente. Grammy não está numa situação fácil, porque sofre com o mal de Alzheimer. Qualquer pessoa que já teve um ente querido diagnosticado com isso, ou que conviveu com alguém próximo, sabe como essa doença é complexa e cruel. Desde o início, é difícil não sentir impotência e carinho pela Grammy, e é fácil simpatizar com Clémence, que quer fazê-la se sentir melhor. Os desenhos e os traços da Alix Garin são essenciais para passar a atmosfera desse livro. A maneira como ela escolhe as cores, e como os desenhos combinam perfeitamente com as frases e os pensamentos dos personagens é de muita delicadeza. Esse livro me passou tantos sentimentos em poucas páginas, sem recorrer a sentimentalismos baratos, mostrando o relacionamento - com altos e baixos, como qualquer outro - de uma avó e uma neta. Os momentos marcantes que as duas têm durante a viagem são especialmente lindos, e é difícil não se emocionar. Recomendo pra todo mundo que quer sentir esse sentimento agridoce que é amar alguém e não poder impedir de vê-lo partindo aos poucos.

Sobbed from the first page to the last. Heart-wrenching and heartwarming at the same time, immediately became one of my top 5 favourite graphic novels of all time.

Comecei isto pouco depois de ter visto "The father" e também nutrindo um grande amor pelas minhas próprias avós, então eu estava fadada ao desastre.
Foi absolutamente incrível. Não tenho muitas reclamações, mas vamos começar por aí. O meu principal problema com o livro eram certas cenas em que os personagens diziam coisas que o leitor podia entender claramente sem ter que ser dito explicitamente. Vou explicar. Por exemplo, na sequência do supermercado, com a mãe e a filha, não havia necessidade de mostrar a interação entre elas, pois o ponto seria passado mesmo se ela não existisse. Outro exemplo seria na parte da discussão acerca de tomar banho. No diálogo, a Clémance diz que a avó está a "agir como uma criança". É melhor mostrar do que contar. É um detalhe, mas incomoda-me que esteja escrito quando podemos compreender claramente a semelhança entre o comportamento da avó e o de uma criança.
Por outro lado, tenho muitas coisas esplêndidas a comentar sobre o livro. Primeiro, o art work funciona perfeitamente. Além da sua beleza, as cores proporcionam uma narrativa muito coesa, as transições entre seções são suaves e nunca confusas. Em termos de cenas, a "who are you" é impactante graças às imagens. Os flashbacks são ótimos, a diferença visual entre a cena de sexo e as outras foi uma ÓTIMA escolha e não poderia ter sido feito de outra forma, honestly foi perfeito. Além disso, só queria destacar o quanto gostei do monólogo de Clémance sobre arte (sem dúvida uma das melhores citações da graphic novel).
Resumindo, foi uma história relatable em vários aspetos, muito emocional, reconfortante e nunca falhou em dar profundidade aos seus personagens. Lovely.

Forget Me Not is an incredibly written and illustrated hard hitting graphic novel following Clémence and her Grandmother, who has Alzheimer's Disease. Clémence breaks her Grandmother out of the nursing home where she lives so she can see her childhood home for the last time.
There are so many themes in this graphic novel which hit home, as I know what it's like to see someone lost to Alzheimer's Disease and how much it effects everybody who loves and cares for the person with the disease. Watching Clémence come to terms with the Grandmother she knew as a child, and the Grandmother she knows now cannot be compared as they're completely different on the inside even though on the outside nothing has changed.
Going on the road trip with Clémence and her Grandmother was incredibly tough at times, especially a specific scene with forget me nots; it was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
TW: domestic abuse, homophobia, slurs, death of a loved one, death of an animal, strained mother/daughter relationship.
