A very solid beginning to the new era. My only complaint was that the ending did not feel very conclusive. Maybe I will change my mind after reading the sequel, but this book did not function very well as a standalone novel. Otherwise, I appreciated the new lore and seeing the Primaris Marines in action.

Overall, I enjoyed this, although it did lose me with a few of its twists and turns. It had a tendency to jump around across various storylines, some seeming significantly less important than others. I probably could have done without a lot of those side plots that didn't really go anywhere. Certainly not the best 40K novel I've ever read, but enjoyable overall and helpful in understanding the current status of the universe.

While there are some amazing parts of this novel, it is unfortunate that there are also a large amount of lacking elements. The exposition is tedious, there is a lack of plotlines or overall story in this novel and many scenes are just boring.

These books changed alot of the base from warhammer 40k like the space marines and the way the technology is used so a fan may have problems.

A great look at the current events in the 40k universe. It's nice to see the overall meta-plot getting moved forward consistently.

A compelling fish out of water story, if anything.

Not sure why this entry says it only has 13 pages. Has way more than that. Not a big fan of the new era. Still prefer the Horus Heresy.

My problems with this book is that it wanders all over the place without delivering what it promises in the blurb.

I think the intent is so try and show the scale and importance of everything going on by jumping between POVs and locations, but the result feels more like cut scenes in a video game - only, without the parts in between, the plot doesn’t feel complete. If parts of the text had been codex descriptions, or even a mini-story in a White Dwarf feature, it would have made far more sense. As a stand alone book? It’s kind of boring.

Whatever it is, it’s definitely not a story about Guilliman, and if it wasn’t for the audiobook narrator I’d have given up in the first chapter.
