Good book! It focuses on several characters in different times in history and their relationship to a civil war-era racehorse, Lexington. A slave named Jarrett trains (and loves) the horse, a painter , Mr. Scott, paints him, an art collector in the 50’s treasures a painting of Lexington, an art historian studies paintings of horses and the black men who train them, and an archaeologist who specializes in reconstructing skeletons gets to work with his bones. Race relations over time figure strongly in the book, as does the history of horse racing.
