I dislike the use of Zee as a typical scary movie crazy kid.
We never get to see him as his regular self, or learn why he's acting the way he is, and it's somewhat dehumanizing.

I did really enjoy Justin's use of learned therapeutic techniques to control his panic attacks.  As an anxiety sufferer, it felt very true to life.  Kind of wish a bit more detail had shown up so kids could learn them early - it would have helped me!

I was so engrossed in this book! I really loved the anxiety representation (and therapy, right? At least briefly). This was such a creepy and chilling read, I didn't want to put it down each time I had to, lol. I'd love to say more but I'd hate to risk spoiling anything. But I would highly recommend, especially for someone looking for an interest in horror. It's not too scary (or at all in my opinion, but that's maybe depending on your own fears), but creepy enough.

I don’t usually read middle grade horror but I made an exception for Hide and Seeker and I’m so glad I did! If I had been in elementary or middle school when reading this, it 100% would have easily become one of my favorites! Since I’m not in that targeted demographic, it didn’t resonate as strongly but I still greatly enjoyed this book.

Justin has recently lost his mom to cancer and one of his best friends that helped him through it, Zee, has also disappeared.

One day Zee just shows up after a year missing, and while he’s back, he isn’t the same, he’s different and reciting strange rhymes about the Seeker. Soon Justin and his friends find themselves a part of a deadly game of hide and seek with this malevolent entity called The Seeker. Together the friends need to come together to defeat this terrifying evil and return home.

I loved the strong messages in this book about grief, moving forward, and learning that facing what scares us, doesn’t have to be something we do alone. The characters are diverse and the relationships in this novel really do catch the feeling of a positive, supportive, and powerful friendship. This was a fun read with a great message, cute characters, and overall just leaves you with those cozy spooky vibes that I love. Hide and Seeker is not scary (it’s middle grade) but it is creative, creepy, and a nice break from adult horror!

TW/CW: Death of a parent, anxiety, panic attacks

Holy moly this was so freaking good! So spooky I got goosebumps multiple times! I really love the found family aspect. These poor kids all deal with something terrible at home and their friends are their comfort and solace. And they worked together at the end to defeat the Seeker.
