This was an EXCELLENT execution of MG horror. Based in a childhood game, that feeds on the fears of its victims, it provides some chilling scenes based in a variety of real life issues like grief, isolation, phobias, miscommunication, and social anxieties. As the horrors are based in each character's individual fears, it manages to add depth to all the supporting characters in addition to the MC. This is a wonderful read!

Moderate: Violence and Body horror

I dislike the use of Zee as a typical scary movie crazy kid. We never get to see him as his regular self, or learn why he's acting the way he is, and it's somewhat dehumanizing.
I did really enjoy Justin's use of learned therapeutic techniques to control his panic attacks. As an anxiety sufferer, it felt very true to life. Kind of wish a bit more detail had shown up so kids could learn them early - it would have helped me!

I was so engrossed in this book! I really loved the anxiety representation (and therapy, right? At least briefly). This was such a creepy and chilling read, I didn't want to put it down each time I had to, lol. I'd love to say more but I'd hate to risk spoiling anything. But I would highly recommend, especially for someone looking for an interest in horror. It's not too scary (or at all in my opinion, but that's maybe depending on your own fears), but creepy enough.
