Enchanted to Meet You by Meg Cabot

I was so excited for this book. I loved the Runaway series as a teenager and was looking forward to a cute witchy romance. The first thing I did not like was how the description describes her as plus size, but I looked past that since sometimes the authors don’t write those. Then, the third chapter went… I don’t even know.

First, the fmc described her size as 5’9”, 200 lbs, which is not necessarily plus size.

Second, it casually mentioned having no self control with candy.
Since there was no place to put the lacy bralettes, however, due to the piles of other merchandise, not to mention the bags of candy I'd bought (
and already begun snacking on
) to give out during the Post Road's Halloween Trick-or-Treating, I could only set them on the desk in front of me...

Third, the fmc just started annoying me because she would not even give the mmc a breath to explain/introduce himself. And normally, I can stand it as I like cheesy rom coms. But she barely even got this guy’s name.

Fourth, he used a spell to calm her down by touching her without consent. Which was necessary because she would not stop talking. But still.
The leather of his motorcycle jacket creaking, Derrick
reached across my desk and laid a hand upon my shoulder. "I said, sit down, please."

Instantly, a fizzy sort of ... lightness came over me. That's the only way I could describe it. It started where his hand touched my shoulder, then traveled down my arm to the tips of my fingers until it enveloped my entire body, robbing me of the tiredness I'd felt all day. Not only my tiredness, but the soreness I'd been feeling in my knuckles from sewing half the night, and my feet from being on them all day, hand selling dresses for the ball.

Instead, a delicious warmth descended upon me, as if I'd been wrapped in a blanket made of the golden autumn sunlight outside.

Even when he drew away his hand—which he did almost immediately-the light, warm feeling stayed with me, and the pain didn't return. I felt... well, good.

And finally, the casual mentioning of binge eating disorder.
I felt an endorphin rush as strong as if I'd just eaten a bag of chocolate bars, only without the bloating and regret.

If anyone has read the book and thoroughly enjoyed it, please let me know. I really tried to give this book a fair shot as I don’t like to dnf books. It really felt like Meg Cabot was really out of touch writing this one. None of the trigger warnings including anything related to fat phobia or bed. Does the fat phobia go away later in the book?

A bit of a slow start, a mild conflict, and then an anticlimactic resolution. This book took me a while to get through simply because I couldn't make myself enjoy it. Marketed for adults, but I felt like I was reading a middle grade book with sex scenes. The story couldn't decide what it wanted to do.

It was a nice book, a quick read. But I felt a bit disappointed in the way it all went down. Also, very little to no action, the plot was quite thin, and although the characters were nice, they were underdeveloped. It felt very much like "this is wrong, this is how you fix it, fixed and little bow to finish it off".
Maybe I should even get it down from the 3 starts...

Enchanted to Meet You by Meg Cabot

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you to avonbooks harpervoyagerus netgalley for this amazing eARC.

I have to start by saying Meg Cabot has been a staple in my life since I was 13 years old. It started with The Princess Diaries books in 6th grade. By my freshman year of high school, I was devouring the Boy Series.

Meg’s books have been a constant source of joy, hope, and humor for me for almost 23 years.

The first book in her new series, Enchanted To Meet You is no exception.

Enchanted to meet you follows Jessica, a plus size, boutique owning witch, her cat Pye (who I suspected is named for Pyewacket, from the Kim Novak Movie “Bell, Book, and Candle”) who is just trying to enjoy life in her small town.

Her life is turned upside down when a mysterious stranger, Derrick, shows up in West Harbor. After telling her that her small town is in danger, like end of the world danger, it is up to her, The Chosen One, to assist the Bringer of Light (who is still in high school btw) in saving their small community.

Jessica and Derrick have to navigate the growing feelings between them, all while trying to save West Harbor as they know it.

A scheming frenemy, a high school ex, meddling friends and family, all create a wonderful cast of supporting characters.

I loved this book, from the writing, to the plot, to the extremely diverse cast of characters. I fell in love with West Harbor and this new series. The humor shines through, and held my attention from the very beginning.

One thing’s for sure, Meg’s personal magic shined particularly bright in this book. I can’t wait for the rest of the series.

The Princess Diaries author + witchy romance + plus sized MC + magical realism + a Taylor Swift inspired title? What's not to love? I absolutely devoured this book and it was everything I imagined it would be. I'm excited for more Witches of West Harbor novels!
