This may be an unpopular opinion but I'm a bit underwhelmed. It's annoying when someone says I knew it but... I knew it.

Minor spoilers ahead.

The Housemaid was entertaining enough but it was built on the usual premises, like hatred and violence against women. I was not surprised to discover the actual psychopath of the house and I was kind of annoyed by the misogyny of every character (but hey that's our society). Luckily, the story was fast-paced which made it a quick-read. Most readers won't be looking for quality literature but the language felt almost over-simplistic. Artistic ambitions or originality felt secondary although the novel is enjoyable.

To sum up, not my favorite but still okay.

I can see why everyone has loved this book. It was a quick and simple read. It intrigued me to begin with and I was sucked into it. At the mid way point though, I was questioning the plot. And then it was kinda predictable. So it was ok, good for suspense beginners maybe.

This was such a great read, such a great mystery, and I can see why Freida McFadden, and this series has the hype, and I can't wait to continue on with the series!
