Fantastic book. The deep personal story of one mans obsession with running the worlds toughest ultra marathon. And the effect it has both on him, his family, and the epic comedown after its all over! Would recommend to all those who run, and to those who don't!

I don't think I'll ever complete in an ultramarathon (a marathon or two is still on my running bucket list.) Regardless, I found myself nodding along to Harvie's descriptions of slogging through long runs in considerably less than desirable conditions, at first out of habit and then out of a kind of itchy need to get out and away. This book is less a manual on how to survive a 36-hour race than it is a deeply personal memoir about grief and obsession. In fact, Harvie's experience training for the Spartathon might scare a would-be runner away. Harvie’s talent lies in his ability to connect the compulsion to run as much to Dean Karnazes and Scott Jurek as Emerson and Camus.

Half a book of decent running tales, padded out by some pretentious flowery prose.
