Easily my favorite out of all the Vampire Chronicles books I've read so far. The change in POVs helps keep any one character from dragging it down too much (Lestat), and I especially love the chapters featuring Daniel and Armand. Weird choice of the main villain's motivation, though? I really thought it'd be more complicated than gender essentialism.

These books are wild, honestly. Lestat is so funny to me; I love how full of himself he is, and then when he finally meets his match, he weeps like a baby. It was interesting to read about the Talamasca, the tale of the twins was absolutely insane and pretty upsetting. It was nice seeing what happened to Daniel and Armand after IWTV. This book was slow to get through mainly because it's basically just kind of like Anne Rice's vampire world-building/historical info-dumping, and if you're into that kind of thing, then you'll really like this book. Truthfully not a lot actually happens. The first 200 or so pages are spent catching up with various characters who have been seen before or are important later. there's a POV from Marius, some dude named Khayman, Daniel, Jesse from the Talamasca and more. If you came here because you liked the Queen of the Damned movie and were hoping for a spicy romance between Lestat and Jesse, then you'll be disappointed. Because that's exactly why I read this book the first time around, and I was mad as hell. Anyway, I liked it.
