Lestat needs to be struck by lighting 75 times as a form of CBT.

She's such a good story teller.

The ending really did push this from a 3 to a 4 star for me! This book took awhile to finish for me for many reasons, most have nothing to do with the actual book, but I will say it can get a bit slow in the middle. As per usual I love Anne Rice’s world of vampires, and even the characters I’m not the biggest fan of I can respect for who they are/what they represent. Akasha was a great villain for Lestat and gang to interact with. I loved Maharet and the Great Family. I loved how expansive this particular story was over time and space. I had a great time, but definitely not something for a person who doesn’t like, well, Anne Rice-isms (some that continue to bother me), or a person who isn’t as invested in the world as I am. The only reason WHY I rate these books so highly is because of how much I enjoy living in Lestat’s brain or this world for a few hundred pages. I see why people stop reading here. It’s a nice dip to stop on

It is working on your body; it is working and working as fire works on the wood it consumes; as worms work on the carcass of an animal.

SIGH. Another banger unfortunately. I loved the vampire worldbuilding I think the entire concept of like The Vampiric Species being the vestiges of this single petulant spirit is so so so so so cool, Anne Rice you cooked on this front & many others. Really neat worldbuilding. I loved all the characters in here I found the random introduction of an ancient one named Eric to be, very funny. Let's get a THE VAMPIRE ERIC tale.

Lots of cool shit happening in here, more Armand which always tickles me silly, more Marius who outside of Lestat's googoo eyed idealization of him comes off as like a mopey teenager which is very funny to me. Maharet you're cool as shit. Jesse #YES. AKASHA YES. She's such a veritable fiend like ohmy gyadddd I fw her so much. This book is sooooo intriguing, also so #blessed to not be narrated by Lestat the whole time. Prose was as amazing as always no matter the narrator. Much gnarlier than TVL, I honestly liked it way more I wish I could give this like a 5.5 stars. Yet also, lots of weird shit here too and not in a good way

I am not sure if I will continue to read these books, I feel like I only have so much space in my body for vampiric antics and not much more of a taste for Lestat. The question remains of what more can you do to him, he is like The Vampire, but perhaps more pressingly--What more can you do to him that I will care about. But we'll see.

So if the hilarious Devil's Minion chapter had been expanded into the entire novel and also that very sweet ending I'd have liked this a lot more. However, as with the previous novel the fun gnarly bits are interspersed too often with sections I find unremittingly boring. I need to accept that, with the exception of the first book, these are never going to be completely for me, and I should just stick with the excellent TV show.

Already know this is going to be dumb AF but I'm (trying to be) here for it!

the 3rd book of the vampire chronicles, tells us how the vampires were born and why they exist, the best one of them all!
