The world can be filled with your number one fans, but only one will be Annie Wilkes.

"Write a famous book series", they said, "it'll be fun", they said. Until author Paul Sheldon has had enough of the series and starts writing a new standalone novel, finishes it and drives around kinda victory-drunk to get the manuscript to his publisher. And, well, he crashes his car.
But thank god someone finds him and takes him to their house to take care of him.
And let that someone be his absolute number one fan, Annie Wilkes.
But Paul has been in a crash-and-medication haze and only notices he's still alive when he's brought back to consciousness.
He has to admit, the situation is kind of suspicious when he notices he's not in a hospital bed, but in a regular bed in a regular bedroom, that's not his own...

This was my first ever Stephen King read, thanks to my awesome book club Plotgenoten.
And boy did I enjoy reading this crazily suspenseful book! It describes all feelings and emotions that Paul feels perfectly and I could picture myself there right next to him, seeing it all happen in real-time.
Paul also has these amazingly vivid (so vivid!) imaginations about the things that can happen to him. He has imaginative conversations between other people in his head the way only a writer can have those. You are thrown into his world of writing whilst also trying to escape his horrific situation.

It's safe to say I'll read more books by Stephen King, I've just ordered 5 books ( Cell, Firestarter, Rose Madder, Just after Sunset and Bag of Bones) second hand so they will be devoured in the near future! Oh, and happy Halloween ;)

A miserable book, absolutely fantastic. King’s writing gets a little corny here and there, but not enough to put me off how incredibly uncomfortable and surprisingly insightful this book can be.  Fantastic character study of the sardonically determined Paul and the insane but dangerously clever Annie Wilkes.

Lots of King-typical stomach churning violence partitioned by moments of commentary about media creation and its relationship with the consumer/mega-fan.

Great book!! Loved it! Terrible! Fantastic! Kind of made me want to throw up! Read it!

I don't think I'm really a King fan... This book is WAY too long. For an academic purpose discussion author/fan ownership of art i'd be cool, but for recreational reading it wasn't for me.
