This book was a little too dramatic for me, but overall I liked it. It was a great book, but I wanted it to be a little more funny. Since Kao's a little hermit this book is perfect for him and Fallon. So that's why I gave it ⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars.

Cute romantic YA with all the ridiculous misunderstandings you expect from YA novels. You’ll roll your eyes occasionally but Michelle’s heroes are just to die for so it’s worth it.

|> The leads are already irrevocably in love with each other at the premise of the book (they're super cute together!)

|> The novel follows the journey of the duo experiencing something horrific and how they try to hold on to their love for each other to get through tough times. That event takes the central focus with everything else happening in Fallon’s & Kao’s life revolving around it.

|> I found that the main characters were reasonably reacting to their situations which added a lot more depth to Defiant Heir.

|> We're getting great supporting characters here. None of them are a-holes / playboys / egotistic manics / psychos - at least not in this book. They were all in fact very supportive.

|> No college toxicity or dramas & no OM/OW.

|> Safe romance, no cheating.

|> Sweet, reclusive, romantic hero who just wants to love his lady love for the rest of his life.

|> HFN ending.

Oh boy get out the tissues as this arthur takes you on a rollercoaster of feelings in this book. This is book 3 in The Heirs and each book just keeps getting better and better. This is Fallon and Kao's story best friends until one night when tragedy struck they were torn apart by one person's misplaced guilt and failure to protect the other. They both have to overcome the tragedy they were dealt and learn to face it together rather than apart no matter the outcome. There's nothing like a tragedy that makes you realize we're only here for a short while.

Defiant Heir is unequivocally my favorite in The Heirs series.

Kao is quiet, an introvert, a gentleman to his very core then in the blink of an eye, he becomes the opposite of who he is. Fallon is outgoing, kind, blunt, a pillar of strength to the group of friends.

I fell in love with Kao and Fallon in the very first chapter, the bond they shared and the intensity of their feelings was palpable then in a moment the start of them was shattered by a tragic event.

Kao and Fallon’s story pulls you in immediately with a stranglehold on your emotions. Their pain, inner turmoil, and an array of other emotions the characters experience was exceptionally articulated by the author that their emotions flowed through me as if they were my own.

Following the devastating emotions, you are right there when Kao and Fallon begin again. Fallon and Kao’s bond became even stronger as they shared their fears and dug deeper into the emotional side of their connection. It was remarkably clear that they were soul mates, two halves of one soul.

The dynamics of this group with their unshakable loyalty, unconditional love, witty banter, and unrelenting emotional support they provide one another is another element of this series that will have you hoping that the end of each story doesn’t come.

Defiant Heirs is a consuming, unstoppable emotional roller coaster that destroyed me ultimately piecing me back together with their recovery, Kao’s ability to make me swoon so hard a few tears leaked out.

Kao and Fallen have always been great friends with just a touch of more. As their friends are getting together these two start to realize that their bit more is actually a whole lot more.

Much like the previous two books, and what I suspect will be the recipe for the future books of the Heirs, there is a tragedy that forces these two to face some tough decisions. This particular tragedy deals with self-doubt, and grief in what could have been along with the possibilities of the future.

Kao has always been a silent supporter of his friends. He is always there to lend a hand and be available to anyone who is struggling. Fallon is a strong female who is fierce, and loyal to a fault. She is a huge supporter for all of the Heirs and doesn't want to let anyone down.

Heard does a fantastic job of bringing these stories to life, and giving the original characters we fell in love with a great opportunity to support their offspring. With these hot as heck covers, I can't wait to add them all to my bookshelf.

Defiant Heir is the story of Kao Reed and Fallon Reyes. They have the sweetest of beginnings before it all goes downhill. But they get back together, stronger than ever.

Synopsis:
Kao and Fallon want to take it slow. They don't want to announce their feelings for each other in front of their group of friends, yet, even though they're always together, together. But an accident leaves Kao blind and Fallon scarred. Feeling immensely guilty about putting her life in danger, Kao starts to distance himself from Fallon. How do they find their way back towards each other?

Review:
This one starts in much the same way as the first two books in the series. When Kao is twenty-three-years-old and Fallon nineteen. The tables have turned in this one as it is Kao who's first-person narration starts this one, where he's in love with Fallon. He's her plus one, always accompanying her everywhere, though they haven't made it official.

Such sweetness right at the beginning is worrisome though, as to what unpleasantness is to come in the story. There are talks of soulmates, first kisses, falling in love, and taking it slow. And then the inevitable happens, a dark chapter starts in Kao and Fallon's journey. It was so heart-breaking to see Kao transform from a soft-spoken guy to one who constantly lashed out.

At times, the characters did feel vain though, especially Fallon. But then, only someone who has gone through so many life-changing instances in such a short period of time would know how everything feels. Moreover, there's so much heartache and tenderness in the story that it makes up for it.

It was bittersweet to see them healing each other. As the end came nearer, it was a bit of a seesaw, between liking and loving the story. It is not my place to judge, especially since I haven't faced in life what Fallon went through. All I can say is that while having scars across your face is scary, but constantly speaking about it as if some people don't live with it, have no choice but to live with it… I mean, they all are very rich and can afford the best doctors. Why such vanity over good looks then?

P.S. My reviews of the books in the series is as follows:
Coldhearted Heir | Arrogant Heir | Defiant Heir

Thank you to Candi Kane PR for an e-ARC of the book.
