I have a hard time with horror novels but I have been keeping my eye on some that interest me in hopes to find more I will love since I have so few. I think my constant watching of horror movies makes getting pulled into a novel a bit difficult because the visual is what tends to scare me. But that's just an overall note to those reading this review whenever I rate horror books. The beginning and end to this I really enjoyed but everything in-between I started to zone out during. Everything in the beginning is exactly what is happening with factory farming right now so while none of that shocked me it of course is always horrible to hear. It's violent and disturbing. Seeing how it would be handled the same way if we ate humans is definitely unsettling. The very end shouldn't have surprised me but it did. Loved that. Just wanted more from the middle of the book to keep my interest. But great read.

This book was the first one in a very long time that I had to put down and read something else for a while so I could process and move on from what I'd read here. Dystopian novels that actually require you to take a step back and think deeply about the world the characters are stuck in and what could've happened to lead society to that place are always good reads, and this one took that to a new level. The amount of apathetic distance that people were able to make in this book to find no issue in consuming and using human meat, "leather," etc. was hard to digest at first, and even after taking a step back before 'part 2' and letting myself read something more lighthearted during my 5 day break, some of the things that are so normal in this book were a tough pill to swallow. Anything that can illicit that much of a reaction in a reader is an automatic amazing book.

Yes I get that I'm not supposed to like the main character but do I need 7 hours of an Okja/Men Are Shit fusion to come to that conclusion? Reductive and blasé, maybe would've been more exciting if I was 16.

wow this guy really hates women!
Idk I think it just wasn’t for me. I thought the premise was so promising and really interesting at some parts but I just couldn’t get past the main character. Wanted to get through it in case twist paid off but ending fell flat for me too.
