Romance AND interesting SciFi in one book
Okay, I became a Regine Abel fan because of her ability to weave in First-Contact SciFi with very endearing romance. This book is like a prequel to some of her other works, and is set very near our current times. The evolving humans are facing unknown challenges, with even more mysterious mentors. I can now appreciate some of the “science” in her other writings because of this book. And the HEA at the end is definitely worth it.

One main reason I don't like novellas is that they're too short. I know that's the point of them but this could have easily been at least 300 pages! To me, this novella was an original idea, well-written, and very imaginative. I love seeing dark complexions in sci-fi, fantasy, and romance mashups without any reference to race. slavery etc. Just a beautiful short story about leaving the only world you thought you knew for a different one altogether with your fated mate.
