Okay, so we’ve encountered a five star read. It’s the first one in a while, which is what really excites me! Historical fiction has got to be my favourite genre and this book has everything in it that I love about the genre. There were elements in it that were  unique, such as including the dreams/nightmares of Sarah. They weaved into the plot slightly and gave it a lot more depth.

This book was nothing short of incredible. Gripping, emotive and factual, it tells the story of a young Jewish teenager caught in the fire of the Second World War. The author’s use of language devices (primarily metaphors, similes and contrast) join with historical events to create a captivating journey. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, particularly those who enjoy history and historical fiction. I can’t wait for the sequel! :)

Comenzó con todo, después fue medio lento y al final pasaron un montón de cosas zarpadas. Amé la relación entre la protagonista y el capitán.

This book had the potential to be so much more, but it just left me feeling...flat.

1) It hit my biggest peeve: shitloads of foreign words and no glossary! I feel sorry for the people who tried to read a physical copy--at least with a digital copy, you can get the words translated near instantly! (I use Aldiko Premium and it works with the Google Translate app. I keep it on detect language > English so I don't have to change every time.)

2) I didn't want to learn how to say "dumb bitch" in German, but now it's drilled into my head. Thanks, Matt.
