Perfect Chemistry

4.5 stars...

I loved it but just couldn't give it 5 stars. I could have used 'her' Spanish translation. Yes I can Google the words - sort of. But even with a translation it isn't always THE translation that was intended.

Her geographic descriptions are correct. It will never matter if you are from there but I am so there you go. She also did her homework on gangs. Her gang life wasn't sugarcoated but it's also not nearly as graphic as it could have been.

Brittany could have been a serious bitch but her sister Shelley gave her such warmth. And Shelley's bond with Alex was PRICELESS. I do,love Alex, the good and the bad. Even Mrs. Peterson is great. We so need more teachers like her.

The story...without Brittany and Alex and who they were it still would have been good, just not great.

DNF at 25%.
There was no attraction to these characters for me. I didn't like either one of them, or any other characters for that matter. It seemed hectic and rushed, with the mc's hating each other, then all of a sudden being attracted to each other for no reason that I could see.

I only picked this book up because it came recommended to me. On one hand it was exactly what I expected, a snort inducing tritely written teen romance. On the other, it was incredibly entertaining. I give this two stars because it was interesting enough I wanted to find out what happened all though way through the vomit inducing epilogue.
The idea of the book, a forbidden love between a gang banging Mexican American and a "perfect princess" white girl is pretty much already a cliche. It hits you over the head with the fact they come from different background constantly. It's a simple concept, the reader does not need to be reminded of it every thirty seconds.
My other pet peeve was the way Alex speaks, just because he is Latino he needs to speak English without any g's? Sentences like this one "You were the one girl who made me risk everythin' for a future worth havin'," constantly set my teeth on edge. I know plenty of people who speak English as a second language, no body speaks this way.
Overall it was interesting but I don't think the message was that great. It's one thing to look past your differences and date people who aren't like you but I think dating gangsters is a little bit extreme.

an engaging romantic YA book that is cute and bingeable, with a bit of an edge. there was good momentum, and then things kinda went haywire toward the end which led me to feel frustrated. but appreciated the author’s exploration of class, race, family dynamics, and disabilities which enriched the story

Perfect Chemistry was a delightful read. It's a modern take on the Romeo and Juliet story. White girl from North Chicago and Mexican drug lord from the South side, cross paths in Chemistry class and end up falling in love. The story truly begins when each side attempts to discover and fit in with the other. Although this is young adult fiction, I loved some of the lines in the book and the love which the two kids feel for each other. Read this book!

This has been on my TBR since 2012! I don't know why I waited so long, but swoooon. It was so good. Alex......dang, that boy.....

It was intriguing but corny at the same time. Alex and Brittany were developed well enough but they were pretty cliched. Colin was just one big tool. We're never supposed to root for the one she's with at the moment but it would be nice to not have them ALWAYS be so pushy about sex and the biggest jock of the school.
It was basically Romeo and Juliet meets She's All That. I'm a sucker for opposite sides of the tracks kind of romance (when in the mood) so I can't really hate it. It's not the worst take I've read on it and it kept me interested throughout, even when I could easily predict what was going to happen next.

j'avais presque terminé ce livre, mais j'ai décroché... je pense qu'il manquait un peu de profondeur pour moi, et que je l'aurais beaucoup plus apprécié il y a quelques années. j'essaierai peut-être de le terminer plus tard.

I can't for the life of me understand the 4 star rating. This book is cheesy, the writing is bad and it's full of terrible stereotypes. It's basically a poor Wattpad book.
