The way these books had a CHOKEHOLD on the teens! And we ate it up!! Simone Elkeles really was THAT bitch!
All teen novels are starting to read the same to me. This was still an okay read for a laugh. Totally predictable with stereotypical characters. I still enjoyed it, I guess.
Brittany and Alex can't be farther apart in appearances. Brittany is middle class, from the north side, and has everything. Alex is Mexican-American, from the south side, and belongs to a gang. Unfortunately, the two have to work as chemistry lab partners for the year. Brittany and Alex have a lot in common too and they realize that as they spend more time together. Suddenly Brittany can't help but wonder if Alex isn't the guy for her and Alex wonders the same. But their different worlds threaten to tear them apart when Alex's past and gang catch up to him.
Told from both points of view, this is a fabulous love story in the tradition of West Side Story. Brittany and Alex fight the odds to be together. There is a lot going on here too - not just their story.

This was absolutely amazing. One of my all time favorites. Alex is probably my favorite character out of all the books I've read. This book will definitely be re-read over and over.
“You are the one girl that made me risk eveything for a future worth having.”
This story is perfection! One of the best YA romances I've ever read.

I give this book 3 stars. And I have my reasons.
First of all, I love the scenario. "Bad boy meets good girl" I have never really read a book like this scenario, so it was pretty new to me. I saw this book under romance, bad boy meets good girl, and so many other titles. I enjoyed reading romance novels, and because so many people have written good reviews about it, I decided to read it.
Usually, romance novels can be cheezy, depends on how good the author writes. And from this book, I found it a little cheezy. Brittany, the main character kept talking about how in love with she is, over and over that it got really annoying.
Although the cheeziness in this book was annoying, the spanish part was annoying the most. If you are fluent in Spanish, that's great! However, I'm not. Because Alex is Mexican, he speaks Spanish, and it is included in most of the dialogue. I was too lazy to go to Google Translate and translate it.
Because I read this with my Kindle, the cover was different than the one that is on Goodreads.

Compare the two covers. Which one would you like to read?
For me, when I first looked at the old cover, just from the cover, the story looked cheezy and it's like, "I am a bad lationo, and I am about to kiss a white blonde girl", while the new one is just a picture of a man kissing a blonde. I prefer the new version much better than the old one.
Although, some negatives about it, it was a good novel!

I read this book in like 2 days. At first it was a little slow but it picked up a bit and I enjoyed how things ended with the characters.
