This book is an exciting and fast paced thriller that keeps the twists and turns coming throughout the book. This is the kind of book that you get into straight away and have to keep reading to see how things will work out. The story didn’t quite go the way I expected it to either, which is always a pleasant surprised considering just how many crime and thriller books I have read.
This author is still a pretty new author to me, but with books like this I definitely want to get more familiar with their work. It pulled me in straight away and was a very intriguing story. This is on I would definitely recommend.

A fast-paced edge of the seat thriller, this book is about James Sheldon, a former detective who has fallen into a pit of deep despair. He has lost everything in his life, his career, his family and his home. Lady Luck keeps evading him quite a bit until one fine day she changes her mind. James Sheldon wins a lottery involving a substantial amount of money. But does money solve all his problems or in turn add more to his woes? Things turn worse when he has to battle enemies who emerge out of the blue for his money. This book is a very fast paced read, I enjoyed every bit of it. Highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller ride.

Mr Lucky is book one in the Trentbridge Crime Series by Lee Wood. A phenomenal British Crime Thriller, what a read! Lee Wood in his About The Author states he writes that his books will "take you on a rollarcoaster ride", and I couldn't have said it better myself! This truly was a ride, full of twists, heartbreaking moments, and many turns! This is the first I've read from this author and I genuinely can't wait to get my hands on Lucky Break!

Mr Lucky is book one in the gripping British crime thriller of the Trentbridge Tales series. This is an exciting psychological crime thriller with lots of twists and turns. I appreciate the mail the author includes in the beginning of the novel. Many times the reader tries to imagine the location and layout the characters are engaging in the story. There are British English words that I needed to look up while reading but I feel that it's added to the plot. The story is original, intriguing, and full of suspense. You don't want to stop reading it until the end!

Lee Wood’s *Mr. Lucky* is a gripping and unpredictable crime thriller that takes readers on a high-octane ride through the dangerous and often terrifying consequences of sudden fortune. At the heart of the novel is Detective James Sheldon, a man whose life has been shattered by a single, fateful moment. Eighteen months after that tragedy, James is homeless, broken, and on the brink of suicide. But in a twist that would seem like pure luck to anyone else, James wins a staggering 168 million in the lottery. Yet, instead of delivering him from misery, this newfound wealth plunges him into a dark and harrowing nightmare.
What makes *Mr. Lucky* so compelling is its unique take on the crime genre. This isn’t your typical detective story. The plot is fueled by James’ internal and external struggles as he navigates a dangerous underworld filled with drug dealers, crime bosses, and his own haunting demons. The lottery win, which initially seems like a miracle, becomes the catalyst for a dizzying series of events that constantly keep the reader guessing. The tension is relentless as James battles not only criminals who want a piece of his fortune but also his own doubts about whether he deserves this second chance at life.
Wood does a masterful job of fleshing out James’ character, making him both flawed and relatable. His descent from a successful detective to a broken man begging for loose change is heart-wrenching, and his path to redemption is fraught with twists that make the reader question whether he will ever escape the shadow of his past. The psychological depth of James’ journey is as engaging as the fast-paced action sequences, and Wood balances both aspects of the story with precision.
The unpredictable nature of *Mr. Lucky* is one of its strongest assets. Just when you think you know where the story is heading, Wood throws in another twist that keeps you on the edge of your seat. This isn’t just a tale of sudden wealth gone wrong—it’s a story about identity, guilt, and survival in the face of overwhelming odds. As James is forced to confront his past and make sense of his new reality, the stakes grow higher, culminating in a thrilling, heart-pounding conclusion.
For readers who crave a crime novel that breaks the mold, *Mr. Lucky* delivers in spades. With its rollercoaster of twists, richly drawn characters, and a protagonist who is as much his own enemy as the criminals chasing him, this book is a refreshing and exciting read from start to finish.
In the end, *Mr. Lucky* isn’t just about the chaos of sudden wealth—it’s a gripping exploration of fate, redemption, and the cost of living through one’s darkest moments. Lee Wood has crafted a story that is equal parts thrilling and thought-provoking, making it a must-read for fans of the crime genre who are looking for something a little different.

I have never read any of Lee Wood’s books and was quite surprised at this one. I started hesitant because there are several characters introduced at once and you start a little unsure of what is happening. That changes quickly once the pieces of everyone’s lives start to run together. I love how this book is written, it makes you really think while you’re reading about how it is all connected. It’s a sad story that ends in an uplifting way and shows that you truly never know how each our lives can change or connect at any given moment. I highly recommend and I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

My first book by this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I did enjoy this book! I love a good crime thriller! It was full of mystery and just kept me turning the pages to see what happens next. James Sheldon has had some tragedies happen in his life and he went down a dark path. Until he wins the lottery and becomes Mr. Lucky…or so he thinks. His story is heartbreaking and so devastating..I couldn’t imagine. Had a great emotional pull on me. I’ll be looking more at this authors work because I was impressed with this.

Life has a way of changing very quickly. One moment, everything is on the up and up. Family life is great, job is showing the prospect of a promotion, life if grand. That is, until it isn't.
Detective James Sheldon was living the life as one might say. His wife and best friend Miriam took their two children to go visit with her parents. Expecting them to show up at any time, James was taken aback when there was a knock on the door and bad news to follow. That bad news put James in a place where he eventually found himself at the bottom of the barrel and living on the streets pandering for spare change.
But again, life has a way of quickly changing. A kind soul persuades James to go buy a lottery ticket. He seriously could have eaten a decent meal with the money but decided to take the advice and bought the ticket instead. Life changed again in just a short amount of time when he checked his numbers and they all matched. He was the lucky recipient of the largest lottery ever, $168 million!!
Now his life is in danger because of a devious man trying to ruin his life. How will James handle his newfound wealth and this lunatic?
This book started out a little rough for me but by the middle of it, it was gaining speed and I ended up really enjoying the story. The beginning had a lot of details that I felt were unnecessary at first but eventually came around to being important. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
On a side note, I guess I could say I'm lucky as I was reading this. My kindle shut off just as I read the last word!!
