What a lovely debut from the author and an amazing start to a new series!
A Grumpy Witch's Guide to Finding Love is like a spell that hooks you right from the beginning and sets you up for a cozy and magical experience with understanding and relatable characters.
I love a well written, fast-paced story that can balance and cater to proper story and character development; a technique the author executed beautifully๐
Zoe Kingston is the best type of character to follow along with. Her life's a mess, she's banished from her coven and is losing her powers, yet she slays through it all with a sharp tongue and a side of sass.
Then there's Daniel Blake, the charming hunk with that swoon-worthy British accent and dimples that could stop traffic. ๐ Heโs on a mission to chip away at Zoeโs defenses, but she's not making it easy, which only makes the journey more fun๐คญ Once those walls crumble, youโre treated to a relationship that has all the natural flow and is just so uniquely them ๐ค

I would've loved to see more slowburn between them because the whole "breaking down Zoe's walls" determination was my favorite part.
It did get a little bit too physical for me once they got together. Not all are shown. Some were fade to black. But that's just me being more of a "communication girlie." It didn't stray from the importance of the story.
As much I love Zoe and Daniel, let's not forget the amazing supporting side characters! They truly made the journey so much sweeter, and I adored the idea of them forming a miscellaneous pact๐ฅน
I mean a witch, a werewolve, a vampire, a ghost, and... a human? yeah, that makes for some interesting conversations๐คฃ

Let me just start off by saying WOW ๐!
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It hit all the right notes, drama, romance, comedy, spice โค๏ธโ๐ฅ
This book took me on this beautiful adventure of this broken hearted Witch who finds love in this sassy British Alpha Wolf who came to find refuge from his own demons, and together they seem to stumble upon a group of similar souls that are also seeking acceptance.
The character growth in the book is excellent. Zayaan definitely made me excited to see what to come next ๐
I'm so proud of Zayaan on her debut novel, and I am so honored to be able to read it before it hits the shelves,
Mark those book calanders as this book releases just in time for Halloween ๐

The story starts with Zoe, who is a witch currently covernless and fast losing her magic without one. She's been hurt by all the people who were supposed to love her so has walls built high, the only person even remotely within those walls is her friend, Lewis, her brother in everything other than blood. Even Lewis isn't solely trusted by Zoe, he's human and doesn't know that she's a witch.
Insert Daniel who is a recent hire at the Muay Thai Boxing gym that Zoe works at. He's British, charming and ever so cheery. No matter how much sarcasm, sass and attitude she throws at him. He keeps coming back for more.
Follow Zoe, Daniel, Lewis and the rest of the people who have forced their way into her life, whilst they develop a bond so strong and fight for each other with everything they are.
Firstly want to start by saying the book was such a perfect read for autumn, giving me all the witchy vibes I need. I quite like the switch around of the FMC being Grumpy and the MMC being sunshine. I really liked what each character brought to the table and felt that it was such a cute found family with a bunch of misfits.
There were some places where the storyline could be improved, at times it either felt like it was jumping from one thing to the next without explanation or repeating the same thing multiple times when it wasn't needed. I also hated how one second the MMC, Daniel said one thing, but jumped to automatically hurting Zoe to "protect" her in the next breath.
I'm not a huge fan of a third act breakup, and this did slightly contain one (in which I felt Zoe forgave him way too fast), it's just not something I enjoyed.
Whilst there was some points I wasn't keen on, as a whole the book was a really cute read. It was light and a good palette cleanser. And the fact its the authors Debut I take my hat off to her and applaud her for what I believe will be a successful Autumn release. I would recommend it for a cute, witchy, Autumn read.

Zayaan an has done an amazing job with her debut novel. She has spun a cozy, spicy, witchy romance just in time for spooky season!
Zoe is a firecracker, I love her stubborness and โlooks like she could kill you, is a cinnamon rollโ vibe. And Daniel is a swoon worthy werewolf of note!
Thank you for gifting me with an ARC, Iโm so grateful I was able to be read it and I canโt wait to get a copy of your book in my hands!

This book has excellent characters. I loved how fleshed out they were. I felt like I know them intimately. All the members of the found family were excellent, and the two lead characters were so well done. I liked the slow burn as they slowly trusted each other. And the passion and spice were excellent. I loved how kick ass the FMC was and how she and the MMC treated each other as equals.
The setting and plot were great too with the small town characters and Pacific Northwest vibes. The conclusion was exciting and I couldnโt put it down. I canโt wait to see all my favorite characters back in book 2. This one is definitely worth picking up!
Thank you to the author for my review copy. All opinions mine.

"A Grumpy Witch's Guide to Finding Love" is an absolute gem. It's wholesome, cozy, and shows us that it is possible to find trust, love, and your own little family in the most unexpected places. I was pulled in from the very first page and found it difficult to put down.
This is a dual POV following Zoe and Daniel. Zoe's life is in shambles after being banished from her coven by her manipulative ex-boyfriend, Marcus. She is also broke and desperate for a place to stay. One day she stumbles across a ridiculously cheap room in a manor. The catch, though, is her new roommates are a vegan Vampire (Rory) and a ghost (Levi). She works as a Muay Thai trainer at her best friend Lewis's gym. One day he hires Daniel to assist with some Jujitsu classes. But Daniel has a secret; he is a lone wolf facing challenges from the local pack, accompanied by pressure to marry the alpha's daughter. Daniel is instantly attracted to Zoe and finds pleasure in antagonizing her, but when she finds him knocked out by the local pack, the two form a friendship and start to grow closer.
Zoe is a typical black cat; she is not someone you would want to mess with. She is sassy, badass, and a total grump. She is also very guarded and battles to trust easily due to being hurt in the past. This means it takes a while for her to trust someone and open up to them about who (and what) she is.
Daniel is a gooey sticky cinnamon roll - which is fantastic because that just so happens to be one of Zoe's favourite snacks. Daniel is the epitome of "just because someone smiles, doesn't mean they are not broken". He might have a super sunny disposition, jokes easily, and smiles almost all the time - but he is suffering from his own internal grief at the loss of his sister.
The chemistry between Zoe and Daniel is electric! They complement each other's personalities so well while also challenging each other and bringing out the best in each other. It was cute how their simple rivalry in the gym turned into a cute little wholesome bond between them as they both learned to open up and share themselves fully. It was the perfect blend of tension and tenderness, with witty banter thrown in, making their relationship feel authentic.
While the story does contain elements of romance, there is a second overarching theme regarding the testament of friendship, where you can find true and genuine connections in the most unexpected places. Zoe's friendship with Lewis is adorable and touching. I really appreciated from the start that it was explicitly clear these two love and care for each other, but only like siblings, with their bickering and jokes - WE DO NOT LIKE LOVE TRIANGLES PEOPLE... As the story progresses, Zoe, Daniel, Rory, Lewis, and Levi form a unique and heartwarming family. It's a beautiful embodiment of the "Found Family" trope where family is not always about blood but about the bonds we choose to form.
From a writing perspective, the style is both cozy and evocative, drawing on moments of heartfelt and realistic emotions and experiences of the characters. However, even with this added depth, the overall story is pretty low-stakes. This is an easy, chilled read that is all about the sweet, gooey, and wholesome. While there are aspects of heightened stakes, mostly it's just something quick to put a smile on your face and a warm, fuzzy feeling in your heart.
Tropes and Microtropes Include:
โถ Touch Him/Her/Them and You Die
โถ Witches, Vampires, Werewolves and Ghosts
โถ Hidden Identify
โถ Uncontrollable Power
โถ Reverse GrumpyXSunshine (very Black Cat Vibes)
โถ Workplace Romance (Forced Proximity)
โถ Cinnamon Rolls (MMC and IN THE FOOD)
โถ One Bed
โถ Good Girl
โถ He weres GREY SWEATPANTS
โถ FOUND FAMILY (DUH)
โถ View is amazing - looking at her
Overall I loved this! Wholesome, cute, sweet with low stakes! There are MASSIVE HINTS that book 2 is about Lewis and Rory so I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHERE THAT GOES!
Thank you to Zayaan Schroeder for my gifted copy!
