Back in 2009 I entered a writing contest that Suzanne Burns happened to the fiction judge for. Lo and behold, I won first place. I thought it might be time to gain some insight into why I won by reading some of her short stories. Probably one of the best short story collections I've read (usually I get bored after the first couple of stories). Burns' characters were wonderfully macabre and bizarre and always kept me guessing. They lived up to the title "misfits and heroes," (maybe my misfits turned heroes caught her eye?). My only complaint was that whoever edited this could have done better...there were a few glaring typos (knew rather than new) and some formatting faux pas.

Not my cup of tea. The short stories seemed oddly repetitive. Too many weak, complaining people. The style of writing seemed too bland, and the 'oddness' of each story seemed forced.
