The blurb of the first book doesn't tell you much, but what I'm about to say aren't really spoilers, just a more detailed blurb ;) so...
Set in a dystopian America, June is a prodigy among the military being only 15 years old but incredibly intelligent and skilled, and Day is an infamous criminal and wanted all over the country.
When June's brother dies at the hands of Day, she goes undercover on the streets to find him.
---
Sometimes I felt the plot was incredibly written, and because of that all books by Marie Lu are on my TBR list, but there were also times when I felt that she decided to add a random event that lead to the main moments of the book, and those random events sometimes weren't realistic. I love these characters though, but, especially in the first book of the trilogy, Lu tried to weave romance in too much e.g. complimenting a character's looks while they are in a cell, like what?
I also think this trilogy would make great movies.
If you liked the Divergent Trilogy, The Maze Runner, etc, you'll enjoy this.

WOOOOOWWWWWW!! Read the first book a few years ago and fell immediately in love with the characters and the story. It never got boring and I could not stop reading until I had finished the entire trilogy. This is also my favourite book ending ever. It was so emotional and well planned and I was both sad and so very happy.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a decent series – it simply isn’t the shining example of dystopian story telling that the raving reviews had me believing.
The trilogy follows the usual format for young adult dystopian tales, offering very little by way of surprises. This, however, is partly due to the fact that I have read far too many books in the genre along with having read a lot of dystopian tales that belong in the adult category. Due to this, it is now hard for such stories to really stand out.
Despite this, it was a fun trilogy to follow. It’s short and keeps you engaged throughout. A nice simple read, that I’m sure many others will find more enjoyable than I did.

Marie Lu is a gifted writer, very dedicated to creating a world that is plausible with all of the diversity and melting pot that is currently happening around us. I have enjoyed her work after being introduced to it by my local librarian. This series is no exception--- where the characters clearly have racial differences and clear culture (so the characters are not- of color in name only) where this book misses being a 4 or 5 star for me--- the lead woman character June, goes from very interesting in book 1, to sort of an ALWAYS RIGHT, never held accountable for her actions character in book 2 and 3. And worse, they use another wonderful woman character who rightfully points some things out to her close friend the male lead and she is positioned just as a jealous woman instead of... a very good friend with some rightful concerns. The lead man Day/Daniel in book 1 goes from compelling to rather senselessly in love with June who's actions DIRECTLY led to some very awful lifelong consequences (his mother and his brother killed and his other brother experimented on the book then bends over backwards to say it's not her fault, she's a victim too--- which she is but not in the same way that Day is and to equivocate their actions is messy and frankly unnecessary. June ultimately pays limited to no actual consequences in the book, not from the lead and not from the supporting characters around the lead. She is only directly confronted about her actions by Day, 1 time and even then he backs off. Eden (Day's brother) has no voice. The most interesting girl character in the book is IMO Tess, a woman who puts others first, learns to be a healer and grows in very meaningful ways through out the series. She deserved more writing than she got honestly.... all so we could hear about "poor June." (which I will never know WHY its poor June, she literally gets everything? Her job, to be wealthy and in control again, multiple men "in love with her"... the biggest consequence for her actions are silly Day loses his memory and goes away--- he then comes back 10 years later and of course is instantly enchanted with June... because... he's over his mother/brother's death and now he wants to know her again??? During that 10 years she's been the celebrated leader of the country and had the leader of their world of course... in love with her in short the writing/diversity is amazing, but the story missteps quite a bit in having every character treat the lead June, like some sort of madonna that everyone should worship.
