I'm only 42% into this book and already I'm dreading what's to come. I had read some of the reviews before reading (okay listening) the book and was confused as to what would elicit such a reaction from people for Cheyenne... Now I know...

**Will update/finish review once I finish the book**

Are you freaking kidding me?!?!

I was so excited for this book....totally blew my mind how it turned out. I kinda get why Presley did what she did but Cheyenne?!?! Omg. She’s the worst!! Lost all respect for her in this book.

I've looked forward to Presley's story as she has emerged from the lowest depths to completely turnaround her life. The only drawback was the big lie concerning the paternity of her 18-month old son. She's not only not told the father, Aaron Amos, he has a son but Presley out and out denied that he was. And, her sister Cheyenne is in on the secret and she's married to Aaron's brother.

What I liked about the story
It was truly uplifting to witness the change in Presley Christiansen. Not only was she totally committed to the welfare of her son, Wyatt, she was determined to make a sustainable life for herself. Presley had a career plan and was focused on achieving her goals. What she accomplished was extraordinary and she was unafraid to hold her head up around those aware of her past or who had previously looked down on her.

Where the story left me cold
It was inevitable that Wyatt's father would discover the truth about the child's paternity. Since Presley's sister, Cheyenne was complicit in this deception (keeping it from her own husband), I anticipated that the reveal would be explosive. Not only was it not, Cheyenne and Presley continued to believe they were justified and really didn't suffer any repercussions. What was even more disappointing was Presley's reaction to Aaron's later bonding with Wyatt. She resented it and most of her actions were to try to push him away.

There's a parallel story involving a dreadful deception by Cheyenne. I kept reading, knowing that brighter, more ethical heads would prevail. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and this character is truly unredeemable for me. Given her personal circumstances, it was inconceivable to me that she could ever even entertain the idea of what she did, let alone do it. I have no further interest in this character and just couldn't understand the course selected. It was unrealistic and unfortunate.

The bottom line
I love this series because of the characters and small town setting. But, I had a tough time with the last romance and this story left me freezing cold. It's well written and the storyline hooked me from beginning to end. However, most of that was because of my hope that it would turnaround but, sadly, it didn't. I really liked Cheyenne and Dylan but now I'm hoping he gets a new HEA; her actions were that repugnant to me. This storyline eclipsed the romance of Presley and Amos, which was also somewhat of a letdown. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

I'm over this entire series. It's a small-town romance series with none of the small town charm, populated with frankly unlikeable characters at best.

In this book a significant subplot is Cheyenne deciding to ask her brother in law to secretly artificially inseminate her so her husband will never find out that he's possibly infertile. You can't convince me that this is the action of a loving and caring person.

Presley has spent two years hiding that Aaron is the father of her baby and when he figures it out she never actually explains where she wants their relationship to go. What fatherly duties she'd like, whether she needs him to buy Wyatt anything or she forbids Wyatt to have anything.

There's yet another "love triangle" this time Aaron and Riley and just like previous "love triangles" in this series it is mean spirited. Presley isn't attracted to Riley and uses his "respectability" as an excuse to be rude to Aaron. Riley is incredibly rude to Aaron himself.

And to top the icing on the everyone acts like horrible people cake Riley reveals details about Phoenix (the mother of his child) and his relationship. They were in a very intense relationship at about 17 and he convinced by his parents dumped her because he needed to be realistic (read: they were total snobs and Phoenix's mother wasn't good people) she pregnant with his son ran down his next girlfriend. The girlfriend died and she was convicted as an adult for second degree murder (no intent) she's spent 17 years in jail and writes to her son and sends him all of the very little she makes in prison. Riley has never told his son about the money (gone into his college fund) and has hidden all the letters she wrote him. She might be a murderer but that doesn't make him a class act.

This on top of all the horrible things I think I was meant to agree with means I just can't keep reading this series.

Presley could never get Aaron to love her. They had a friends with benefits relationship but it was more one sided. She was always chasing him, until the night her mother died. She needed him and he shut the door in her face. Two years later and she's back in Whiskey Creek with her son. Her two year old son. Aaron's supposed to be moving out of town. She's still got all those same feelings for him, which means she must stay away from him. But Aaron has other plans. After all is said and done can he tell her those three little words that she's always longed to hear?

Another great Whiskey Creek story! Let me just say...CHEYENNE!!!! Sorry for screaming but WOW! I can't believe what she's done and you're not going to believe it either. Presley's addiction to Aaron was very frustrating but at least she didn't make it too easy for him. This story line actually has you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. I love being in Whiskey Creek and I can't wait for my next visit to this charming little town.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
