I was disappointed, as i like Charlaine Harris. The story moved so slow. I struggled to make it through. I will not continue with the series.

✨What it is about:
Lisbeth Rose, a 19 year old gunslinger or “gunnie” is part of a group that gives travelers armed escort, to protect them while traveling the fractured remnants of the US, after the Franklin Roosevelt assassination. One of her jobs goes wrong, and she is outgunned. Not knowing what to do next, she decides to take on a new job protecting two Russian wizards, who are willing to pay top dollar to complete their mission, one that she knows a lot more about than they think she does. Lisbeth is holding onto secrets of her own, that if revealed might make the wizards see her in a different light, but does she worry? Nope.✨

💭My thoughts:
I’ve been pushing myself to get out of my comfort zone, and try and read more books from different authors I’ve never tried, with storylines that are different from the ones I usually go for. This was a very interesting choice for me. It is an alternate history Western, where the US has been devastated by the unraveling of the government , and its territories. The story takes place in a world where everyone is really just trying to survive as best they can, with what they have. There are wizards 🧙, magic 🪄 , and shootouts in this story. In a world where chaos rules, Lisbeth is mature beyond her years, and proves to be a tough cookie. We follow her through multiple struggles and adventures, and there’s even a little romance! This is the first book of six part Gunnie Rose series (last book releasing in 2026), which is basically setting up the world for the rest of the books. It was a short, quick one with a very unique setting. I thought it was entertaining, and perfect for fantasy and western lovers in general.
